You need to plant it on your favorite dirt or grass and bonemeal or water it and the pig will slowly grow up and eventually walk away. There is a chance that nothing will grow, you'll get a pig, or it will grow a pig and the seed will remain to grow a second pig.

Place seed on the ground. It should show as a little brownish dot as it goes through I believe six phases it will look more and more like a pig. When it is full grown the pig will walk away. This is assuming you are not mob capped.

If the pig despawns, you have hit the entity mobcap and you will have to remove some (hostile) mobs from the area and try again.

For the record the mob cap is 10 passive mobs, 10 hostile mobs, 15 mobs TOTAL in a 3x3 chunk area.
