I just wanted to add, this happened from failure to research and laziness as I'd even told you two how to do it right and was ignored. There is a correct way which has been documented in various ways online. Spend some time learning instead of blindly rushing through everything.

No, you really didn't, you went the fastest and easiest route and look how that turned out

It's not a hard limit as such, just my estimation of what point it becomes needlessly excessive, as the rules I quoted above state, this is a multi-player server, not single player, so I have to consider how large scale systems like this will impact everyone else...

In single player if you want to build a giant fusion reactor and enough turbines to handle its full steam output so that you can produce several million RF/t and then use that RF to power a long row of MFR laser drills or a bunch of overclocked mass fabs and replicators, or some gargantuan AE system capable of auto-crafting several hundred items per tick then that's fine for you assuming your individual computer can handle running all of that, but here on a multi-player server with many users we simply CANNOT and WILL NOT allow that kind of needless excess because it effects the server-wide performance for everyone else.

So how well optimised is your combined base then?

You say there is 13 of you living there in total, but now many redundant/duplicate systems do you have? Do each of you have your own processing setups (extractors/furnaces/etc) or do you have 1 well organised communal workshop?

it's as effecient and as communial as it can be which says alot about the base so if we do need a lot more power we would keep the fusion reactor built never turn it on and really use the sources you would give us to run our huge base xD

A proper turbine should make nearly to 160k rf and thats by no way much. i peaked on ~0,8M producing with 5 turbines (proper) and some smaller producers into a 900.000.000.000 powerbank (that started to crash the server when i added blocks. And comsumption with 2 STACKS of laser drills, well you guess ;)

Edit: Did check my numbers, mixed up rf/mw here and there ;)

i saw the laser drills xD atm we're powering one with an mfsu that powers a ton of stuff that's hooked up to 3 EV windmills xD

"Do not overstate, this is a multiplayer environment and not singleplayer where no one else is affacted by your doings."

I feel that this rule is being overlooked. It's easy to overdo things in FTB, but my mates and I do our best to limit our footprint on the server. I expect others to be considerate of their impact on the server too. In this respect building lag machines like a fusion reactor is downright selfish.

However, I do understand the appeal of building a fusion reactor but judging from the responses on this thread it's more about prestige than any real necessity. As a result, I think we should be allowed to build it and turn it on to prove that it works. Once that's done the builder should just be given an infinite energy source. If you want a working fusion reactor, no one is preventing you from doing so in single player.

Lastly, not to point fingers but I don't trust certain players enough to run and maintain a fusion reactor in the long term.

Doesn't the fusion reactor need fuel? something infinite energy sources don't need?

Put 50k buckets heavy water in ME (takes 2-3h).

Make some Deuterium+Trtitium to fire it up (Achievable in 1 day).

Configure Fusion to make Tritium out of Deuterium as well.

Run the HW->D Process which only needs little power

Have enough fuel for 4-5 serverlifetimes.

tl;dr : As long as Reika didnt change it, you only have to go through his stages of evolution to have enough to fire it up once. Then its a no brainer.
