Decided Against In-game chat calculator for all servers

Having such plugin installed would be a very quick, useful and handy way to do different calculations - faster than any other method (Windows Calculator, the actual calculator/phone etc).
This plugin has many different operations but I don't know if it will work on 1.7.10: ChatCalculator - Bukkit

What do you think?

 

ok i see what u mean but is this really needed does it really take people that long to grab your phone or open windows calculator?
and this i would guess could cause a bit of lag which is not strictly needed

Windows Calculator is not convenient for people who play in fullscreen mode. And your phone might not be always available (eg. it's charging or you might be watching YouTube on it while playing...).
I highly doubt that such plugin will produce any lag at all. That's why I think adding it won't cause any problems but might solve some instead.

I'm not talking about simple calculations like 5 * 12 but about multiplying or dividing bigger numbers, which most people can't calculate in their heads. And players can get mad at you when you keep asking them things - we all got our things to do

 

well personally i think it is completely and utterly pointless basicly it will save u what 1 min and this is just more complication and more stuff the server needs to do

There will be close to no extra CPU usage for the server, even if everyone was using it extensively - it's just a number calculator...

 

well currently we dont have it after it will so more complex
ye depends on what u are doing to do lets say u do some stupid maths which uses alot of lag for example what is the sqaure root of 103902939804830328940283894832111991

 

You can't get to the conclusion that something will cause lag without even trying it

 

i just know someone will do somthing stupid and will cause lag it ppl do that stuff

 

I think this would be a great idea. What you should do is add a pole so people can vote if they want this to be a thing or not.

 

so its a mod for people who cant be bothered to alt+tab out of fullscreen for the 10 sec they need to use the calc...?

actuly if u really want this u might be better looking at a client side mod and getting it authed on the server hmm might work on that actuly ;p

 

I had this plugin running on my server over a year ago. Despite all of my efforts of trying to cause lag by calculations (like operations on the biggest numbers possible, for example), I failed. And it was also a modpack, on a way worse CPU than MyM servers are running on.

It's possible to add a command cooldown for extra protection (there's even a plugin for that). But the global anti-flooding mechanism should be already enough.

You guys are right but you simply haven't had an occasion to play on a server with such a plugin. Give it a try, let's have it installed on MyM servers and if it doesn't cause any extra issues, just let it run. Let players know about this command and let them see.
You can easily get used to using a calculator with just a few keystrokes, rather than getting out of the game to calculate something and then keep coming back to the game, back and forth.

 

the point is if everyone does this i want one that makes text documents for me i also want one that does this that and the next thing the point we are trying to make is basicly this is for people that dont have the 10 or 20 seconds to go to windows calculator or grab there phone i think this would be better as a client side mod as that would be alot less work for staff

 

This will not happen. There are other much more "convenient" plugins already on the server, like the universal portal for many dimensions, and I don't see anybody asking for "free dimension unlocks" or anything like that. Do you?

Installing such a simple plugin on a single server is just a matter of few minutes. Checking if it works on multiple servers with multiple game versions running will take more time, sure. It's still worth a try, it's not like it will take an entire day to deploy this plugin on all the servers...
A client side mod? So rather than letting everybody use this command immediatelly by installing a plugin, we should encourage every player to install an extra mod by themselves? Doesn't sound any better for me

 

In this case the plugin would not actually do much damage to the server, BUT, the RAM involved for some of the larger operations will put a heavy stress on the server, as the JVM is NOT good at handling its garbage collection, so i don't think the strain will hurt CPU (it's only basic operations and some trig) but RAM, *snort* if someone tries to kill the server with it, it'd definitely be possible if you knew just what operation (10^(10^100) would possibly crash the server, looking at their github), they don't handle numbers very well it seems, so i vote no only for server safety nets

 

he knows about pointless maths systems

 

I don't feel this is needed, while useful it's not needed, the staff resources for setup/maintain lent could go to more profitable endeavours.
