I would really like to see a block that increases mob limits.
Lets say a diamond block, you place it and it uses Tickets to increase the spawn limit of that chunk.
    16, 32, 64...ect

I find it really hard to play skyblock maps on MyM, the limits really slow down progression. It would be nice to be able to use tickets to increase the amount of passive and hostile mobs i can have in a chunk. I really do love this community and network but at the same time, i feel limited at times.

Of course i do not know if this is even possible, if it is... i would like to see it implemented.
If not, just delete this thread.

Most times on a popular skyblock its not the moblimit that does limit the spawn. If you have a server with 20+ people the mob spawn rate is drastically reduced by the the players loading different areas, not the mobspawn limit that is implemented.

On the Infinity skyblock and hypovolemia we tried to adjust the plugin spawn limit serveral times to no success.
My bet is that minecraft itself or maybe forge does limit the amount of mobs when there are too many players.

minecraft itsself is known to have an internal mob limit, although I am unsure of how this would work in conjunction of the area moblimit

Minecraft has a set hostile mob limit of 80 I believe but spawners bypass mob limit. Neutral mobs not sure what the limit is but not included with hostile ones

From what I know is that Minecraft has its own mob limit for mobs that spawn around the world, like Pein_Rikudo said, around 80 for each world. This only effect mobs that spawn naturally, like in dark areas. Peaceful mobs do this too, but when breeding them you can bypass the limit. I do not have much experience with the plugin that they use.

Spawners completely bypass the limit, and in 1.8+ Guardian farms also have a special bypass if you get them out of the area.

+ Mobs only spawn in a 128 block radius from the player (257 block diameter). @HostileMobsOnly - They despawn if the player gets 129+ blocks away from the real position of the player.

+ Spawners have their own limit in a 7 block radius horizontally and 4 block radius vertically (All cuboid not spherical) if and when you move the mobs out of that area

+ Mobs will not despawn if they have an item in their hands or nametag (I believe) AND jailers safari net.

There are a bunch of specifications for mob spawning that I am not mentioning, but in a world made out of void, and 20 players, it would divide up a number of possible spawning places by the hostile regular natural mob limit (or server limit) -- Sounds like rubbish to me, but if you have 20 players it feels like you would only get around 2-6 mobs per player VIA Natural spawns.. I don't know how the plugin stops some mob spawners...

Hope any of this makes sense.. and helps.

well if you have a server with 50 players.
80 Mobs isnt really that much if you divide it by 50. ;-)
Unfortunately, if forge does not add methods to change that mob limit, not even a mod would help.
Screwing with the minecraft core with mods, is not advised.

maybe someone could ask if forge could add a method for it?

Because having 20 mobs times 50+ player is a really good idea!

    From the Minecraft Wiki
The mob cap is only 80 (70 hostile, 10 passive) with 1 player online, in vanilla. With more players online, that cap is increased.

  12. Died like, what?, twenty times the moment I left the spawn. I swear those skeletons can smell me a mile away, always trying to shoot me down while I try to climb up the trees. Too smart mob AI.

Yeah, 1.10 is going to be a bit of a shock for modded players.

  14. Not if they have been playing expert mode for the past months. The modlessness is a most welcomed respite.

More on the combat perspective, we've become used to pretty easy combat as a result of mods like Draconic Evolution, and 1.9 has a complete overhaul of combat which was compounded on by 1.10.

I believe that Minecraft is trying to spawn n mobs each n ticks which does not increase linear with the amount of players.

Can we verify if it is a limit or slow mob spawn rate?

If the issue is slow spawning, this could be confirmed by comparing spawn rates in a superflat world with 1 person online and with 10, for example, provided that the players are all at least 32 chunks apart. With 1 player, the number of mobs should quickly reach 80, but it will be much slower to reach this total with 10 players online, if slow spawning is indeed the issue.

I remember the zipcrowd crew on their server had a large box of mobs holding items. I remember them saying there were 80 mobs in the box which prevented spawns on the server. I never had an issue on MYM with mob spawns playing skyblock. They were a bit slow when many were online but I'm not one who needs a deep storage unit full of zombie flesh

I believe the only way is to kill them all while 50 players are online compared to 5 players online and measuring the time until the re-spawn slowed down or stopped.
