Swear Filter Adjustion

I've often yelled in chat FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU after a death, as it lets off stress, people attach real meaning to the game in ways you won't believe, such as people have a lot of endgame items and die to a glitch? You would be super mad too, and JigSaw only had a game too, albeit you could actually die in it, right, why you have to be mad that he almost killed you in a game, amIRight?

 

So instead of saying it sitting in front of your computer screen, which would scientifically give you the release you get, you type it out...

Really? I've been here for 2 years and no one has ever even given a warning for anyone doing it that I've seen

 

Ideas are not banned, but merely inappropriate and often easily-accessed ways to say them. Before attempting to say something potentially hurtful, one must actually sit there and probe his/her brain for an acceptable substitute, which can lead to reconsideration of the decision to even say such a thing. Part of being mature is learning to control one's impulses and project a calm demeanor. One can do whatever he wishes in the privacy of his home, but MyM is a relatively public environment, and much as you wouldn't walk down the street creating the swear word version of the Oxford Dictionary, you shouldn't do it in a public chatroom, on the Internet. Doing so is poor self-representation at the least, and potentially harmful to the development of younger people.

At Kronnn: Censorship without adequate justification or defense usually creates resentment and noncompliance. This thread was meant to discuss and suggest alterations to the filter; if such an action is not possible, then I would recommend closing the thread and censoring further discussion.

It relieves stress when you say it, not when you type it. Main thing is this is a sever with a set amount of rules. The server owners have graciously gone lenient with their swear rules and asked what should and shouldn't be included. If players want to swear in chat, then all those players should get money and put an adult server together and swear to your hearts' content. the swearing I see now a days on crackpack is beyond stress relief

 

Making rude comments on people in one thing, while swearing in chat just so you get, "oh you poor boy" sympathies from other players is quite different.

 

Admins on crackpack have been doing it lately here. I've also seen it done on Regrowth last year

Well, I for one have noticed that most of the swearing is done by immature teens, like below 14. And after cornering one or two of them I came to knew that it was their idea of "fun" and looking "cool". If this is the player base you people are trying to protect, then I must say it is a lost cause, after all, you cannot protect them from themselves.

 

Chugga, I have probably been on MYM as long as you have. I've always seen you argue on the opposite side most times. In a psychology class perhaps they are still studying the effects of swearing. But just know, MYM servers are not a psychology class or place to experiment the aspects of it.

Of course you do, most people do. But this server has rules that must be followed to be on here. You break them then don't complain about the punishment

These words were never on any filter and imply nothing, so it A. wasn't ever in the rules, and B. have created a larger "swear word" list during an attempt to make the swear word list less restrictive

 

No, chugga is trying to make a point that swearing is not harmful. These remarks tend to derail the subject from the merits of allowing free speech while still protecting younger people from the undue influence of coarse language, turning the subject to the person behind the argument, chugga_fan, which has nothing to do with the argument.

As I've already mentioned, stop quoting the rules; this discussion thread is about changing the rules; laws that don't work should be removed. The law is only correct when it is effective.

I do believe in maintaining order on the server and I also would like for people to stop using offensive language (and correct grammar for native English speakers). I think it's offensive, creates bad influences, and doesn't help convey any new information.

That being said, I am firmly against any of this kind of censorship some of you are trying to push on us. Just because the poster is chugga_fan does not mean the post is intended to start a riot. This is intended to start a civilized discussion, and if informed debate is not possible, then this should be closed since people are evidently not ready for this kind of dialogue.

 

Divide swear words into two parts, minor and major/adult. Give warning if one uses minor swear words, kick them off the server if they use it multiple times. Don't show adult words at all.

 

This is incorrect on many accounts, I am pointing out how the law is ineffective and is over-reaching, and you're claiming that it is not

Any language is offensive in the proper context, saying to stop all offensive language is impossible because someone somewhere will be offended no matter the statement, and you seem to be actively trying to shut down any possible discussion or change of the filter, so please, do not act as if I am of a lesser intellect than you or as if I am just trolling, when you yourself are falling into your own claims /any offtopic in that paragraph
