The first Mineyourmind Mafia game - registration thread

Welcome to the first Mineyourmind mafia game

What is Mafia?

Mafia is a game that has been played for centuries. Probably Not. Some might also now it as werewolves, which is a slightly commercialized (is that a word?) version of the game.

The game basically is played in the following way:

Each participants gets assigned a different role. The player keeps his role a secret. This role is either on the good side of the people, on the bad side of the mafia or somewhere in between. Roles can have special abilities, e.g. a healer. The roles available are determined by the creativity of the referee (that would be me in game 1) . There can be standard setups where all roles are known or as I prefer it more complicated setups with unique roles design by the referee of the game.

The game divides into day and night. Each ingame cycle gets a deadline assigned by the referee. That can be a reallife day or multiple reallife days, usually the later one. Especially since we have people all over the world in this forum.

On each night the mafia meet (usually by private conversation opened up by the referee) and determine one player that they want to kill in this night. In the night also other players, that have special night abilities get a chance to do their thing. In the day the victim (if he actually turns up dead) is outed in the thread with his role name and his affiliation (mafia, people, something else). Only players still alive (there might be exceptions) are allowed to post in the thread.

During daytime participants (and only those) discuss in the game thread who might be a potential mafia candidate. The goal of the daytime is to find someone they lynch at the end. This is done by writing the name of a player into a post in bold letters. For example like "Vote Sandstroem"

The referee (and probably also players, again because of the different time zones) post summaries of the collected votes so far. People can also change their votes as much as they want. As soon as one player gets 50% of the votes, the day ends and his role name, role and affiliation is outed. E.g. in a StarWars Setting an example would be "Sandstroem is lynched by the angry people. His name was Darth Vader, he was the leader of the mafia and also a mafia healer"

The goal of the game is for each side to win. Easy, right?


Now the interesting part.

• This first mafia game will be a mafia game with customized roles. I haven't started working on them, it depends on how many people want to join.
• Since it is a customized game, it might turn up highly unbalanced. That is sometimes not avoidable if you come up with specific roles.
• The theme of this game will be "Mineyourmind". So you might actually get a role like

  You are @SirWill , Slinds evil brother, leader of the mafia and if you decide on a nightly victim, you can overrule all your fellow mafia members
• The roles are fictitious versions of people in this forum. They might incorporate some cliches about the player. They are not meant in any way to insult the player, please keep that in mind. (Maybe Slind is the evil one, who knows)
• Everyone who wants to participate writes a post here in this thread with his or her interest to participate.
• Please keep in mind that this game requires a certain activity. I will keep the right to not allow people into the game, if I have never seen them active in the forum or if they registered like yesterday.
• Deadline for the registration is Sunday, 25th October, 8 p.m. german local time.
• A minimum amount of players to make this happen is something like 8-10 players, but the more the better.

I probably forgot important things, feel free to ask any question here. I will also update this post if I remember stuff that I forgot.

Well timleg is usually very short with words, I could make a role out of that.

This is just like the game Town of Salem web browser game I love it.

 

So if it's Mym themed then shouldn't it be Greifers instead of mafia and voting to ban rather than kill (and in the Greifers case who to Greif)

 

maybe staff is mafia, or griefers, i haven't really thought yet how the specific setting looks like

or a group of people who want to take over mym, who knows

This is not the brainstorming scenarios thread you know

Once I know how many people are playing I will come up with a scenario.

The way we usually played it was that each phase starts with a small RPG like scene. My writing skills are not that good there, but I will probably do that.

 

I believe we have @SirStudMuffin @chugga_fan @GGothicRide and @profrags who want to take over MyM

 

I don't even play on MyM servers that often.
