Discord Mine Your Mind Server

I believe it would be a good idea for Mine Your Mind to have a discord server. As it gets more popular as a chat platform people are starting to move away from things like skype and teamspeak. I felt like it was a hassle downloading teamspeak just to talk to someone. With discord you can just open it in your browser if you don't want to download the app. I'd like to hear what some others think about this. MYM already has a Slack community set up here ... sorta like Discord

 

I've heard of slack but I heard someone say that after 10k message history you have to pay something. May just be a rumor but idk

 

We have slack and ts. No current plans to move.

 

This has been discused 5 times now
Teamspeak is easier to use for newer players
Also Teamspeak is easier to interface with
plus for me my ping doesnt rocket to 1000ping

 

I find teamspeak harder to use imho but that might just be me

 

Discord currently has a lack of integration, unlike slack

 

What type of integration do you mean?

 

Slind/SirWill/Lucid could give a better answer to this.

Stuff like:

• Third-party bots/programs
• Server plugins/mods
• Live updates from applications/websites

Stuff that doesn't really concern a player but staff use it for various things.

 

I know discord does have bots too but I see what you mean.

 

Haven't looked into it or used discord much so...busy with other stuff in my life atm Welcome as well, forgot to say that!

live updates are doable through web hooks i believe

nice thing about discord is there is no limit on msges unlike slack on slack you can have 10,000 messages and then older messages are deleted which can be annoying if you remember someone saying something an you cant find it also admin controls/groups are far better on discord which is not possible on slack so you could allow admins and mods to be able to delete msges ect kick/ban or even mute someone depending on there group

 

Is the message limitation a client side thing or a server thing?

Well I was wondering why MyM doesnt just buy a version of slack that is better. But then I looked at the prices, monthly 8 dollar for each active user or so, could get expensive very fast. Not sure what "active user" means though.

 

I've had a discord server for a year and its great that I can scroll all the way back to the beginning and see the cancerous start of my discord

 

Well as I understand it, slack is designed for small or medium sized teams, so a non-free slack works okay for the internal slack (I don't even know whether MyM uses a free or paid one there), but public slack has like 3k members or so, most not active though.
