a raid? what does that mean?
[DOUBLEPOST=1482887415,1482886217][/DOUBLEPOST]Trying to play with outages like this almost feels like living in an area with rolling brownouts. The power may be on a little or not at all and one can hope there is a set schedule to such things...

RAID (originally redundant array of inexpensive disks, now commonly redundant array of independent disks), is a way of storing data, RAID0 stores information the fastest, but is unsafe, as in if one disk fails all of the system fails, RAID1 is a step up, where each disk copies information onto the other, RAID01 is a RAID0 array of RAID1 arrays, raid 10s are RAID 1 arrays of RAID0 arrays, RAID levels above 1 are complex arrays of pairity data and extremely optimized algorithms designed so that if one disk fails you can remove the disk and replace it, and the data will be fine after it restores the disk

If you have a large data system and you aren't using a RAID 1+ array you will fail eventually, and that data will be permanently unrecoverable, so i'd be VERY worried if the server wasn't running a RAID array for data storage

RAID no no no. We store everything on floppy disks, haven't you noticed that slight delay when you log into the server? That's us inserting the floppy with your character data. Why do you think it is such an issue with overflowing your NBT data, you take up too much space on the floopy

...I thought you were using zip disks?

Lol to be fair one floppydisc is usually smaller than one playerfile....

Lol. Ok, i get it, now i understand better. the RAID arrays and such, like the hardware and bios and software involved in server infrastructure. my glossary on such terminology is not master level. tnx @chugga_fan

Player data files are normally relatively small. Now the region files those we use an array of Zip drives for, using parallel cables of course to ensure maximum performance.

Congratulations on giving me my first laugh of the new year. Cheers.

So, is this issue (mostly) resolved, now?

Well as small status update. There has not been an outage in a "long" time now. So the issue is probably fixed.
