UnBan the neutral nexus from Ars Magica

    Without the neutral nexus your basically crippling Ars Magica since it is required for making spells, an admin said there is a way around using it, but he was wrong since the only way around it was removed in the latest horizons update.

    It won't cause lag I have been on servers with waay weaker server machines that have multiple Neutral nexuses and there was no lag. And its not like Eighty people are going to be using these things at once.

    A player already quit this server due to the inability to craft spells now, and some others are planning to do the same, since Ars Magica is one of the major mods of this pack.

    For the record it does cause lag.. we may not know why it does, but the numbers speak for themselves:

    To put those numbers in perspective, the top line shows the update time for the entire server.. the highlighted line shows how much of that is taken up just by essence nexus in loaded chunks.

    @Slind14 is there anything we can do about this, as this isn't the first time I've heard of players threatening to leave the server over this, as it does appear to be more necessary that we thought when it was decided to ban it...

    2. we update (will force the use of the mym launcher)

    Maybe @Xfel11 can look into it and tell us more.

    Sadly that's exactly the answer I was expecting ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1407813232,1407812807][/DOUBLEPOST]From a technical standpoint, I'm guessing this is similar to the issues we have with Modular Power Suits over on Monster (the fact it is constantly spamming status checks).. the essence nexus works by converting "liquid essence" placed underneath it into the "neutral essence" energy that it then sends to blocks nearby capable of receiving it.. so I'm guessin the nexus is constantly checking if there is liquid essence in the 3x1x3 space under it every tick.

    in this case I assume it is a bug and not light inefficient code. It got fixed with the big update, unfortunately due to the new content this doesn't allow us to only update the server.

    Yup, admittedly I have very limited knowledge of Ars (I only use it for the arcane reconstructer over on AG+ to repair my hammers) but since the update on agrarian the nexus is replaced with an obelisk that you can just insert a bucket of essence into and it uses it just like a bucket of lava works in a vanilla furnace, so to be honest this bug is probably the exact reason that chance was made.[DOUBLEPOST=1407813813,1407813633][/DOUBLEPOST]I think someone suggested this before, but perhaps as a solution we could sell the creative spawned Mana Battery on the market, as the creative spawned ones start off fully charged with non-specific essence that can be used in place of all 3 of the standard types, so should allow the creation of spells that would otherwise need neutral essence...

    The problem with that idea is that you also need a large multiblock structure to create spells which would need to be nearby and the materials the structure is made of is an intentional restriction to make it so you have to invest resources building the structure and then later upgrading it with better resources in order to make the highest level spells (at least that's what I remember from watching Direwolf20 using ars in his lets play series) so I'm not sure how balanced it would be.

    I think it would be a good idea to put creative spawned Mana Battery on the market for players to buy it would be a "win, win situation" Since server performance would not be affected, and players would have access to neutral essence. Thus players would once again be able to craft spells. :)

    Ill very honest, I'm probably not the best person to ask since I don't know how much essence 1 battery stores and how much is needed to make a spell but id say make it 200 for now and we can change it later if it seems too cheap or too expensive.

    I left one at his claim with a sign on it but he's on a diff modpack atm I think.

    I checked into the spell that was being made, and it looks like it needs 5 full batteries worth of power to complete, but not knowing how high tier the spell is I can't really tell whether 5x180mym's is a fair price or not :p[DOUBLEPOST=1407972398,1407970347][/DOUBLEPOST]The more I think about it, I actually think we could make it so mana batteries can be charged with a mym-fix..

    If we could make it so that rightclicking on a manabattery with a bucket of liquid essence consumes the contents of the bucket and then adds one bucket worth of charge to the battery that could work quite well as an alternative to selling the batteries, and would make it so that people still have to search for and collect (or make in smeltery) the liquid essence in order to produce the neutral essence energy as the mod dev intended.. anyone from @Developer feel like looking into this?

    I don't think it will take 5 full to make this spell if it dose then some things vary wrong and its effectively a tier 1 because of the banned spells on this server and all spells that need essence need at least 500 witch I think is 5 buckets but I am not sure.
    so this is a all most basic spell nothing extra added if some of the other were not disabled it would be a mid level spell but as is it is a basic one now[DOUBLEPOST=1407975276,1407974662][/DOUBLEPOST]
    I like that idea if it works there will be no more need for this nexis in spell crafting and I can go on making some of the better spells this mod has.

    this would require writing a mod and depend on ars magica if it is possible without "hacking" or not. Both ways it is quite time consuming and compared to other issues that need to be fixed by developers nearly at the end of the todo list. :( Unless someone really wants to do it out of personal motivation.
