Hey guys I would love to see a new pack join Mym, this packed has peaked my curiosity and I think everyone will love it. The pack is called The Simple life 2The Simple Life is based around enhancing vanilla Minecraft features but also tie in popular 1.10 mods A feature that everyone will love, is that this pack has a QUESTBOOK! 541 quests The progression on this pack is not grindy at all but adds some very cool interactions. As said in his over view video Spoiler: Modpack overview This pack has some very cool mods, like Rouge dungeons, Mine colonies, and Creeper confetti. I don't know about you but having creepers explode into confetti is trill. It's already on our list of potential packs, the one issue with it is Mine Colonies as this being the main feature of the pack could be a potential nightmare in a server environment. If you've played with it in single player you'll know the villages tend to be massive in size along with NPCs being tracked. It may work out alright, but it will need to be tested before we release it into the wild.
yeah i do agree on that maybe there is a way to decrease the max village size but yeah this pack does look like fun
It would do more bad than good. It would just encourage people to take more space (by building a ****ton of villages). Also, there is another problem: The map would be full in no time. Colonies cannot be built in a certain range from one another. Combined with how smol the maps on MyM servers are, the server would quickly run out of space for colonies. The only two possible fixes would be making the server exclusive to users with ranks or increasing the map size.
Wouldn't just expanding the map to 15k instead of the 3k(or whatever it is) and just preloading the whole map beforehand solve this problem? or change the config to allow colonies to be closer to each other.
TBH I'm kinda sick of questbooks but alsong as the pack is still playable while ignoring the book altogether it looks good to me!
Last question first, they can build as close as they want by default, but each building has it's own size, which just happens to be large So even on a single player game I have a village that takes up over a hundred or so chunks with only a small village, imagine the world with our dedicated MyM players playing?! It isn't the world size that is the limiting factor in performance, as we pre-generate the worlds long before the first player logs on, but rather what is done in that world. You also have to remember the larger the world size the larger the storage needed to hold them and all that entails. So where we would all love an infinite world size the floppy drive would probably explode. Combine that with everything going on in that infinite world, Mine Colonies being the issue here even the sturdiest server would melt, short of us dedicating an entire box to the project. So then there is the option of restricting access to the pack. Let me start this firestorm too while I'm at it . There's nothing wrong with the idea of having a Patron restricted server, I'm in the camp that it would be a significant reward to those who donate their hard earned cash to ensure we all have a network to play on. Unfortunately, from my point of view, I'm in the minority with that thought, and we want to keep the network open to everyone in every pack. TLR Simple life might work, it might not we'd have to really study the impact on a test server, the issue is no matter how well we test it we simply cannot replicate the player base. Take Forever Stranded for example, we tested that pack for months tweaking and changing it to ensure it would work as a multiplayer platform, of which it was never intended to be, and we still had and have quirks with it. Which brings up the other issue, experimental packs, it really isn't just a catch phrase!
