One thing that I have been noticing on both B1 and B2 since I've started on the server awhile back is the constant sale of banned items on the market and those items occasionally becoming problems for the staff on the server. One example: syringes. It's not uncommon to see people openly advertising their genes in global chat in exchange for currency or other items. (B2) There are other items, such as Flan's mod items that I see new players to the server purchase and complain about when they are deleted from their inventory upon use. This is still at the fault of the purchaser for failing to read through the rules and /banneditems list that's repeated every ten minutes or so as a server message, but that doesn't make it okay for the sellers scam others out of their money. It's not healthy for the server when a player that's only been on the server for a short time loses what they have. In addition to those, there are also items that are openly said by the staff to be banned, but aren't physically so or listed, such as the T-Rex eggs. They're banned because dinosaurs cause block damage through claims. I think this makes it a problem when players are pawning off DNA and eggs on other players when the items themselves aren't allowed and are going to be removed by staff. It's even more of a problem when staff have to figure out what to do because somebody decided to drop a T-Rex inside of somebody's claim and destroy their housing. (Ignorance of a rule may not be an excuse for breaking it, but this one literally isn't listed anywhere) I don't have any suggestions for this, other than for staff to have a way to clear out the market (maybe they do already?) but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. Thanks.
It's a shame that it's not illegal to be a dick. Seriously, why else would anybody want to do something like this? I know, I know, It was a rhetorical question. Mean people suck.
I agree. I have 2 stacks of trex dna I need to delete. it is a pity that the trex dna cannot be disabled. I have seen safari net launchers n such at the market too. I wonder if there is a way to prevent those items from being listed or have them self delete when someone tries to list them. The younger kids get really upset when they spend their myms on stuff they cannot use. Plus its not nice for people to try to trick them. There is soo much that others will buy that's 'legal', why pull that kind of stunt. We have also had issues where someone says " I have that item and I will sell it to you, just tp", then the poor kids tp into pvp areas and get killed without understanding what happened. To me the sale of banned items and false tp to me trading tricks are scams.
Also, for what it's worth (albeit not much, under the circumstances), when I was new to the server, before I ever checked the banned list, we tried to make a dubstep gun (didn't even consider the grief potential, duh). While Flans may be different, we got all the ingredients in the table for the gun, it showed the graphic, aaand that's where it stayed. It wasn't equippable at all. So while we didn't lose our resources, we just didn't get the item. I guess my point is that some banned items resolve to no great impact to the player. Again, Flans may be different, after that first experience, I checked the list, and we won't be trying to make guns again on PVE
Regarding the current situation with the market - If you do see an item in the market that is not meant to be there, please inform us staff members so we can remove it and warn the certain player that put the item(s) there. We're aware the economy is broken Players usually only have - 100 - 1000 + Because of this, buying/selling items can sometimes be a problem, and the reason the economy is broken is because us players basically control it. The T-rex was never banned, it was shamed upon using it for personal use, because of the risk being, it could potentially grief another player, or cause many other problems. Most flan items should disappear from your inventory regardless being what item, e.g - the guns disappear when you put it in your hand. We're also aware on how some of the Tinkers items reset when you list them into the market, and SirWilli asked me to list every ID of the items this happens to, which I shall be doing later on today when I get the spare time. Because B-team is such a high populated community, it's very hard to keep up with it a lot of time, because there are only a few of us on to monitor every aspect of it at a time, which can be very frustrating and make us staff members a little inpatient. - But please, if you do see illegal items being sold in the market screenshot the name of the player if someone else buys it, that way we can solve the issue and that way everyone is happy.
I honestly try my best, I volunteered for a reason, and I'm going to stick to that reason until I bleed out of my eyes. I always try to put the community before myself. Of course, I'm also a player, but I like being a heart whelming community, and if I can help achieve something like this that I can be apart of, I will of course try to achieve this. Failure or not, I know we all care about the server, otherwise we wouldn't carry on playing it. -- NOTE -- Please, if you do see any of these banned items being sold on the market, please send me a /msg ingame or start a conversation with me on the forums. I will try to respond as fast as I can to both.
Well I realize this is getting off-topic, so I'll wrap this up here with this last post, because I feel it needs to be said in regards to any "issues" that the server may have with mods, items or economy: I was being sincere. I've only been on this server a couple (?) weeks, and am obviously (painfully obviously lol) new to BTeam, period. That said, I see you (Ben) on more frequently than even some players, and during that time, you're usually helping 4 or 5 people at once in any given situation. It's clear that the you care about the players and the overall health of the server, and you really can't buy that kind of consideration. It's a gift that you can use in and outside of this virtual world, so I hope you embrace it. With all the commotion that was caused with the server reboots last night, and all the glitchiness, I watched people in lobby chat bickering and griping about this free service that we all enjoy, and it almost made me wince. I wasn't kidding when I said I'd hate to be the guys in charge of all this. I tried to set up my own server once and failed miserably. I don't think most people truly appreciate the time and effort invested in a production like this. It's a special breed of folks who read code like a regular ol' alphabet, and to whom programming comes naturally. While sometimes I wish I had those skills, I know how difficult and thankless that job can be, so I just wanted it said for the record, that for being a bunch of folks doing something purely for your own enjoyment and out of the kindness of your heart? You're doing a fine job.
I feel the same way. Ben, you and the other Mods are great and very helpful. We appreciate all of you very much.
LOL Sorry guys, sometimes I lose focus of who the majority of my audience is. I even have a bumper sticker on the back of my truck that literally says, "Try not to be a ****" from this website: http://emilyyates.bandcamp.com/track/try-not-to-be-a She wrote a really cute song that's on Youtube too. But yeah, I try to make that my daily code of ethics.
