Yesterday i visited the hub gallery where you can change your rank for the first time and discovered that the ranks on both sides were male ranks. Although the majority of players is probably male, i know there are quite a few females out there as well. Wouldn't it be nice if they had the option to choose the female version of the rank they are holding. I know this can't be done for all ranks but there a several for which it can easily be done.
    Just a thought.

I don't see how the ranks are completely set different between sex, considering you can change them.

    Choose something like a 'knight'
Since when were Female knights called different?
Most early rank names are multi-gendered,
I think adding more ranks for the females would be a bit complicated, because they're mostly based off Ontime.

I do agree with you 50/50 tho, because the higher ranks are mostly male orientated, and there are hardly any ranks for the females.

i think i might not have expressed myself clearly; my suggestion is that if there is an obvious female counterpart available like lord/lady ; duke/duchess etc that these might be available to choose from. that's all. and thanks for your quick response. appreciate it.

Nonono, don't worry, I completely understood the suggestion, and now that I've thought about it more, I think 100% this should be implemented.

    I completely support the idea.

We haven't made much of an effort to advertise this yet, but if you speak to a Co-admin/Admin while they are on-line they can manually set your prefix to a female version (assuming they know the correct command to use!).. we just don't have a proper system in place for players to select them directly yet as it is a bit tricky to have two titles linked to the same required ontime.

Knight should stay the same, that's what females would have been labeled as.

    Warlock > Witch

Warlock is the male version of Witch

    shadowmaster - enchantress
    necromancer - night-hag
    demigod -demigoddess

Knight is male/female because Females wouldn't have usually fought in war, so they would of hidden themselves as males.
I've never heard a woman being called different than a Knight.

    > Shadowmaster can be female also
    > Same with Necromancer, a night-hag would be someone with destruction spells, not someone who raises the dead and plays with voodoo.
    DemiGoddess tho

oh, never heard of that tho?
I'm British and I've never heard someone being called a 'dame' referred as a female knight.

My old English teacher was a roleplaying guy,
and he would call the females knights too.

idk, maybe the French one would be cooler?

If a woman is knighted in the UK isnt she called Dame? Like Dame Judi Dench?

This is a really interesting conversation, and why I'm reviving it. :)

I'm a woman too, and while I never gave much thought to feminine titles, it makes sense.

I also found it interesting that Dictonary.com says:

I've only heard the word "dame" to have a derogatory meaning, kind of like that of "broad". While it's dated (somewhere around the 1940s or 1950s?), it's still not one I would perceive to be as honorary as "Knight" Damsel isn't even in the same playing field, as she is almost the complete opposite of a knight. Damsel = The silly woman who needs saving. lol

I too used to be a roleplaying sort (Society for Creative Anachronism), and women who achieve Knight status (the same way as was done historically, by the honor of a King or a Lord of the realm), were called knights. But what Ben said is also true: No woman would have ever been knighted. That's the beauty of societal evolution. :)

I have heard of women in authoritative positions in law enforcement and the military (lieutenants, sergeants, generals, etc.), at least here in the US, sometimes referred to (and ask to be referred to as) "Sir." I guess it all depends on where you stand on feministic vs. traditional values.

For the purposes of this game though, I think - even putting aside how difficult it could be to differentiate male/female characters in regards to coding - that most of the titles are interchangeable. Shadowmaster, Necromancer, even in other RPG games, seldom have any gender specification. IRL I've also known male Wiccans - witches - who call themselves "witches". NEVER (never ever) would they use the title "Warlock".

But titles like Lord (Lady), God (Goddess) are overtly gender-specific, and it would make perfect sense to change them. Any of the other ones, are certainly interchangeable. As a woman I have no problem being called a Scientist, Chief Engineer, etc. "Lord" might be pushing it...for everyone in my orbit. LOL

    .02 from here. :)

It was. Per SirWilli's post up there ^ the titles were edited - at least on the site - last month. I haven't noticed yet if the rank matches online...but I will soon! :D

Nah, it takes a whole lot more than that to make somebody look like a fool. Trust me, I think I've done them all. :)
