    spyware : spybot
    virus: clamwin

NOTE: they are not automatic. you must manually use them. (thats actually a good thing unless you are tooooooo lazy)

    I'd recommend this:

Antivirus: AVG, Avast or Avira or anything else, but...
    Norton, isn't that promising imo

    AntiMalware:
You want a ton of things if you really want to cover every gap.
Spybot Search and Destroy is really good - also, run Adwcleaner (manually) every once in a while, get Malwarebytes, too. (No compatibility issues, but only if you only use one real time scanner), along with Rkill and Junkware Removal Tool. Just don't use them at the same time, keep Spybot and Malwarebytes but uninstall the reast after using them. I tend more to Malwarebytes with it's realtime scanner but take what you like rather.

Avast is a good one, that is what I use. And I have not had any problems thus far.

In my experience, Norton isn't worth anything--as others have noted, it will turn your computer into a silicon snail. Clamwin is a free, open source option, very effective, but doesn't have a real-time scanner (which has both pros and cons. Pro: It only runs when you want it to. Cons: You have to remember to run it, and it doesn't protect you from viruses/malware trying to get in, only cleans up after).

My personal set up for five+ years running is Avast! Free and MBAM as needed. Never once had to take any major action regarding viruses since. Don't even touch McAfee....it can't do anything. Our school had a virus that spread around via flash drive, created a P folder in the root, and denied internet at 4:00pm every day. Permanent removal was literally as simple as deleting that P folder (and if you wanted to be thorough, the hooks to it). McAfee couldn't even handle that much. Just...don't.

Thankfully, both Norton and McAfee have released removal tools to purge your system of their software. What does it say about their software when they have to release ANOTHER program to properly remove it?

I use Avg as the antivirus that actively scans and malwarebytes free as a back up scanner. I might switch to the upgraded malwarebytes though( and remove avg), I've heard good things about it :p

Just remember to do a scan once in a while. If you never do that things don't always get detected.
