As it was never clearly communicated if PvP was allowed or not everyone had his own opinion. As I do not know what the majority wants let's make a poll. Until the poll finished in 48 hours PvP is disabled and disallowed.
there are NO plugins, so please forget about them. It is about the current server. How we design a server with plugins is another topic at this time.
This is a hard one then. Most players don't want to be killed at their base but, wouldn't might fighting in the wild. The problem with that is people wont abide by those rules if there is no way to enforce it. This will be interesting to see which way this vote goes
Since it is a whitelist server, people have to go through a relatively long process to even get onto the server, and then they need to get strong enough weapons to kill people, which can take a while, so they are less likely to break the rules.
you only need to play a day somewhere on the other servers to get witelisted - 24 hours isn't that hard to accumulate
Long process? Most people get whitelisted in a day (usually less) and all they really have to say is "I would like to join the server, I have played over 24 hours on here" - I had to answer 10 or so questions to get on some whitelist servers. Getting weapons to kill people takes as much as 30 seconds. Punch tree. Get wood. Make sword. Attack Chugga. Easy. I would prefer a more full application to get whitelisted on the server and a larger requirement than 24 hours, that would discourage rule breaking to those who do it. Personally, I voted yes to PVP. Though aimed at after plugins, the more powerful people on the server can make up some house-rules for killing, e.g. no killing in other players territory and heavily punishing those who don't (we keep killing them till they understand).
I am just wondering how we will secure that people don't raid corpses, since there is no way to check if they did take our stuff when they killed us... (Atleast from my understanding it is like that until we get plugins.
I see most players join a village. It would be nice to see this server as a sort of "war server". Meaning that now and then some major pvp battles occur (without raiding or with controlled raiding).
As much as I dislike PVP in minecraft, it seems like its required for this pack to work well. I agree with the others, would be nice to not be able to get killed in my house, but so far its been mostly civil.
i do agree that if this pack was to be just pvp is that when you are in someone else's claim you can't hold any pvp weapons or have them in your hotbar and have it so that in claims pvp is disabled. this way you do get a place where you don't have to worry about getting kill. and i think it would be cool to have a command like /trust weapons so that people can make pvp arenas and claim them but yet still be able to pvp in them without a full trust.
I wouldn't mind PVP, the only issue I have is that people just kill you, take your stuff, and you lose it. I would build an arena on the current server with a diamond chest to put spoils in, fair game, winner takes everything in the chest. Other then that, the idea of being safe only in your protected area sounds very good.
I've been trying to join a village since the server started without any luck, so I am just a sitting duck to any wanting kill me. Says not raiding or griefing, no way to enforce it will end up with raiding and griefing when first person gets mad they were killed.
