So I got myself a blaze spawner from one of the countless dungeons and placed it under my island.
I kill the places with bellethorns from botania, because my first golem died to some mob with dmg return and other nasty stuff.
Sadly mobs dont drop any items at all with bellethorns. Is this supposed to be so?

I tested a little in singleplayer and the problem seems to be the blazes. skeletons drop items when killed by bellethorns.

Anyone know how to fix that or a better way to kill blazes?

I was killing blazes with the bellathorne on TDT but they only would drop sulfur. Donno if that helps but had to manually kill them to get rods, haven't tried on other mod packs.

Seems that way. I singleplayer tested it to kill them with a few golems. they also do not drop anything there....

I can throw a quick test together on Infinity and get back with you in a few getting ready to get on and finish some blood magic.

If you are far enough into thaumcraft you could use a tool dynamism tablet with a weapon that has looting as your killing method, that uses a fakeplayer so it should ensure that mobs give the same drops as if a player killed them.

Blaze rods are considered by minecraft a "rare" drop so only drip when killed by a player.

Bellthorns and wells of suffering do not count as players sadly.

The golem's need a special upgrade to collect ender pearls and blaze rods. It's either one of the six primal upgrades or the cosmetic ones in the bottom right hand corner of the golem tab.

Or, just a thought here, you could use water.

The water is not a player kill, meaning Blaze's would not drop blaze rods nor xp. You'd just, well, kill them.

If you want it automated I'd advice some sort of unbreakable sword (Ichorium works well) with Looting 3 (and optional Sharpness 5) in a Dynamism Tablet from Thaumic Tinkerer. Feeding the blaze into a 1x1 area and pushing them up is the best option (Up because they can fly after being hit and move away from the dynamism tablet), Arcane levitators work for this.
