We need a private server so bad lol. The megalodon is so amazing lol

 

I have the game and voted yes but would only join in a PVE scenerio. If it is PVP ... and definitely if it is a free for all ... I'd pass on any server including a MYM server.

My thoughts on PvP vs PvE are if we were to have a server that;

PvP - Would have normal difficulty as there is PvP
PvE - Would have high difficulty to compensate for no PvP

The only problem I see with PvE is that it removes some end game. Imagine this, you are lvl 65 with a full metal base and all dinos...as there is no PvP there is nothing for you to do as the server is PvE. I have noticed that 90% of the players on servers are mainly friendly and would probably only fight other high levels if we have PvP.

 

And then you have those people - like we do on Minecraft servers - that jump on, kill and destroy everything another player has built "just for the lolz" and because people cannot be on 24/7 (nor want to) they have little means to stop them. Though the minority, the damage they cause ruins the game for other people.

 

If you build a wooden structure to protect your stuff the only ways to destroy it are either taming a trike (Requires lvl 20) or getting to lvl 25 to get metal tools. This will then require the griefers to play for a decent amount of time to there isnt really an option for them to "jump on" and grief.

 

Because griefers haven't spent time on servers before griefing? Had 2 people on vanilla+ the other day that had several days of playtime (I believe it was 74 hours or something), then just went ham on a sub-communities home and then were proceeded to both get 5 day bans (props to the staff for quick action on that one). The problem is, even people with a decent bit of time in the game can just take out everything a person owns for no reason but "for the lolz", without any repercussions and no way to find out who the person was.

 

Yeah but you have to remember that this is not minecraft. Doing that is part of the game (Ark) and thus makes it challenging.

 

I for one would love an ARK server

 

I don't see how this applies...it is part of minecraft too. The reason I am at MYM is that this community uses plug ins in minecraft to prevent that sort of behavior. The PVE/no greifing playstyle is at the core of most of the MYM servers but the game itself doesn't force that...mym does. Have any of the anarchy servers attempted at MYM been considered a success? If no, then there you have it. If yes, then how can we leverage what made that a success.

ARK is very much NOT balanced from a PVP perspective at this point in it's young lifecycle. To me the problem with no PVP isn't end game players will be board....they probably would be anyway. It's that the Tribe system in the game is much less important and the game is somewhat balanced around that system. For instance, by default, you can't get all the engrams yourself. I guess people could still tribe up in order to max the PVE experience but PVP would make that even more critical. With only one character per server...would people be willing to specialize in an engram path for the benefit of their tribe?

 

If the game ever comes to be free, I might play it. As it is though, I am not paying $30.00(USD) for a game about dinos that I may or may not enjoy as a solo player (since I can never get a team for online games other than LoL)... Plus, I have not had the extra money to buy games like that for over 3 years XD
Do I think we should outbranch to other games? Yes
Do I think we need to keep outreaching to all these broken/incomplete things? (Ex. All the Beta level FTB packs that dont work... at all) No

Yes to the idea of other games... no to the idea that an alpha or beta game is a good idea...

 

The game is more stable than the recent FTB packs and what most servers do that arent official is pick a server version and then stick with it unless a game breaking bug appears at which then they either update or reset and update

 

Wouldnt work very well because even when you log out your body is still there and could become a target if your base was dismantled during PvP. Would need the devs / the modders to enable region-based toggles for PvP I think for a mixed server to work well.

 

I will have a look later to see if there are any configuration or server side mods that can govern certain things in game.

In regards to base protection, they have recently added a stone tier of building foundation walls...this requires explosives to destroy this tier of wall. Explosives don't become available until lvl 50 (this level isn't accurate) and are reasonably expensive to make to griefing isn't to hard to avoid.

A certain amount of "safe time" before your base is able to be raided and destroyed...?

Or like SirWill said you can have days of PvP and days of PvE..

Problem with that is that you leave for the day(s) of pvp, come back, your dino's are dead, you're dead (you are an entity in the world even when logged out - you're just asleep where you logged out) and everything you own is gone...
