I'm currently defaulting to a very seldom used way of auto-crafting.
There is autocrafting in Extra Utilities. It doesnt affect TPS much, if all, but it does take up a bit of space...

Each chest in the 3x3 formation represents a slot in the common 3x3 crafting grid. The Item-node has 1 world-interaction upgrade in it. It's not ultra-fast but it get's the job done

that isn't on-demand crafting though and it's intolerable for such slow timing

Oh, I thought you knew minecraft ;)
Just add a sticky-piston, and tie it to redstone, and you are good for on-demand (if you have a way of checking your stash of this item, but, that is needed for all auto-crafters eitherway)
You can use speed-upgrades, and yes, they may not accelerate the crafting much, but it does go faster. And last I checked I did say:

Because the pack is still "unstable" (the mod author is changing it soon I've been told) there have been alot of things to cause lag. Lycanites mobs(now disabled) Tinker's Construct (has some corruption issues with some of the tools and how they are made) and other various circumstances, we as staff on a large network do our best to keep tps at a playable limit. When people are greedy or uncaring, the tps and multiplayer-conscious person suffer. I have a 10/10/10 seeded farm of about a 9x9 size set up right now myself. I use production tables from steve's I have 4 going right now. If you "appropriately and adequately" set up your system and autocrafting areas then you raise almost no alarm. If it is poorly set or overstated, then yes staff will come and ask/see where changes can be made so that the inefficient array is no longer dragging the server down.

I highly recommend making a dimensional anchor for the chunk you are "autocrafting" in and use production tables. It's not super speedy. But I think we all could learn a little patience in an era of instant gratification. If it's not producing as fast as you want, try distracting yourself with another task. By the time you remember about the set up the numbers will have improved.

true, but speed is why we don't do it by hand lol, and redstone is so much more work than searching it in the interface and crafting the exact # you want

I think we might need to look into sfm and try disable the 1 second option, as this is quite a large source of lag.

It is not the one second triggers that lags the server....

It is the twice a tick triggers that lags the server. Sadly there is no config option to disable trigger speeds. We would need to mod the mod.

Most of the issue was over the weekend with a full server... and yes every time I went to a lag issue it was a steves machine inventory block. I have asked people to enable levers and to only use when needed. I am also looking for ways to get around it because i need to craft stuff too, which to this point I've been doing by hand.

@chaosblad3 will tell you cyclic assemblers (at least were) are terrible for tps... me and him had a dissagreement over which took up more tps and was faster on the monster server, when he made the cyclic setup to make octuple compressed sure it was faster, but my entire BASE was eating up less tps with the AE crafting, and 2 other compression systems running, trust me, lol

You keep bringing that up lol.. it wasn't a disagreement it was merely a test I did out of curiosity and boredom :p

Further testing more recently on Inf shows the RFTools Crafter to be by far the most server friendly way to compress cobble though ;)

Also just f.y.i. test performed on an entirely differently version of minecraft usually don't count. Sort like saying "A" is better then "B" on windows 10 because it was better back in windows 95.
