I am really misunderstanding. I have a base on DW20-2 that I have worked hard on. Will it be transferred to the new server? Will the old server still be up and running and available for me to use, or do I lose my base and have to use the new server and start over? I read and re-read the thread, and I can't figure out the answer to my questions, so sorry if others think it's clear.

 

their removing one of the servers and reseting the other one, because hardly anyone plays direwolf anymore, lots of people are switching to inf as it has more mods and similar performance, their offering to copy the base into another world and give it to you so you can keep playing even after the server shuts down

 

OK, but... when you say copy the base to another world, do you mean to direwolf-new.mym.li? I want to continue to have my base on a public server. I started playing on a public server for that very reason - to have my stuff on a public server, so I could play with my kids, other players, etc. To have to start from scratch is... well... I don't even know if I would bother to play on a public server anymore if this is what's going to happen to the work I put in.

chill, they don't transfer to a new world, and tbh when i heard about this i instantly switched to infinity because well... my work was done anyway, think of it this way, everyone starts fresh, new world, same people, less lag and in the end its just a game which you decide to play for your own enjoyment, when it becomes about being the best or over attatchment to virtual places, then you're either being payed to play these games competitively or you have the beginnings of a problem

 

The base will not be moved to the new server, not at all, it's always a hard reset

What's so great about infinity? I've never played it, but I'm interested to find out. What's the current version?

No server lasts forever. New mod packs come out and people stop playing old ones. Scarce resources get exhausted (fresh villages, exploration sites, etc) with any public server, and the way the overworld gets worn down is only partially mitigated by farmworlds. So it will happen eventually. No MMO has really solved this problem yet, but Crowfall looks like it might do a good job of handling it. Trove also has an interesting way of dealing with it (though I couldn't stand some of the aspects of that game so quit pretty early in beta).

I understand your attachment to your base and the effort you put in, it's just the reality of public servers.. At least ones with a decent number of players.

One last question, then. I can transfer resources from DW1 to DW2 in my inventory. Can I do that between DW2 and DW-new?

 

No. Fresh start is, just as everyone has pointed out, a fresh start. Nothing will transfer over.

hey sirwill is there anyway i can get a copy of the overworld on node 1? i had a lot of hard work into it and would love to come back and play it again in singleplayer and if needed i can upload the world for others to download so you guys dont have to but if not just my base will be fine but would like a large majority of the world instead

 

oh i see didnt realize you guys were all the way in germany. so is there any way to get atleast my base plz i would really really really really appreciate it. my base isnt huge so it should be that many mb big
