Eating food is very slow to start the animation and takes a LONG time to actually eat the food. ~EDIT~ Upon closer examination, it was because my food was out of nutritional value.
This is why i hate the Spice of Life mod, i prefer packs to use Hunger Overhaul which is highly configurable to make the game harder but not annoying
