Basically this. I've been making an MMO modpack for ages, but I've always had the issue of map design. I was originally planning on getting the runescape map downloaded from the creator, but he never got back to me, so now I'm gonna ask you lot. Since I'm going to be making the map from scratch, nows as good a time as any to check.

Basically, what genres do you want it to be? Modern? Zombies? Fantasy? Medieval? Warfare? Urban? You get the drift. Any ideas would be fantastic. Thanks for reading and responding if you decide to.

I think midevil RPG style settings are terribly overused. But I like magic
How often do you see a futeristic RPG with magic?
    There's my vote

Why would a modpack need a custom map? Are you talking about custom structures like villages and stuff that get generated into the otherwise random map?

Look up Shadowrun for a game with a modern/high-tech setting that fully incorporates magic. If this is the direction you end up taking it could be a useful resources. As well as Mercedes Lackey's SERRAted Edge books, a series about Elven race car drivers.

I'm talking about an "Adventure map" styled modpack, using custom npcs and questlines and all that. If I was going to add any building and or crafting it would have to be modified greatly to ensure progression works[DOUBLEPOST=1492320124,1492277487][/DOUBLEPOST]On that topic, anyone know any good places to download worlds? Checking out better builds than my own will probably help improve me after all

There are a lot of city maps out there.
Imagine this map ( I may use it for Civilization 2.0) Will be a light weight pack focusing on Economy and jobs. Not so much on Tech or magic.

The players pay rent to live there. IF they cant afford the costs, then they live in the slums.... aka the wild.

Have shops and shop owners player ran.Food, Ores, other resourses all jobs and player ran. Could be interesting.

Think its time for me to make Civilization 2.0

    Planet Minecraft

Maybe base it off of Harry Potter (late 1980/90's London and Magic). Someone recreated ALL of Harry Potter in MC. Maybe base it off of that?

The only good mod I've seen for combat magic in 1.10 is Psi, are there any others that are less modern seeming? Psi is fantastic, but the CADs are pretty futuristic.

I like the idea of a futuristic cyber/magic world. Tolkiencraft II has the medieval part covered, and there are a ton of post-apocalyptic modpacks out there, but I don't know of any packs out there that do futuristic non-apocalyptic with cities and npcs, etc.
