I went to the mineyourmind home page for the first time today only to be blasted by loud music. Lets be real nobody wants that. Its unnecessary and obnoxious imo, and I think alot of people would agree with that.

Or, you could right click your tab and mute tabs

OR you could click that nicely placed mute button on the top left.

    Just my 2 cents

I have to agree with this but I would suggest lowering the volume instead, the music is unnecessarily loud and this can easily cause players to just say "screw it" and ignore the community all together.

People suggesting to use a direct link to the forums are missing the point, when a NEW user discovers MyM for the first time, odds are they are going to go through the homepage, as that is where the links on the vote sites generally lead to, and what comes up first in google etc.

Having a music player on a websites homepage that starts playing loudly and without warning is BAD DESIGN (no better than those auto-playing noisy swf ad banners that sites used to have all the time), that's all there is to it, sure you can turn it off if you spot the tiny player controls in the top left corner, but not until after that initial blast of music hits as the page loads, which for headphone users can be very painful if it suddenly blasts out at full volume..

If the homepage absolutely HAS to have the music and the player doesn't support setting a default initial volume level instead of it always starting at 100%, then simply open the audio file in a music editor and lower the actual volume of the file itself to a more reasonable level when played at 100%, but leaving it at its current volume is needlessly obnoxious.

You say click the button in the top left corner, but that button extends off the browser?

The problem is the volume. The music is cool, but it's just too loud.

Autoplaying music reminds me of the old myspace days after it went down hill.

I love this community so far, but as a web developer I strongly agree against autoplaying music. It is a bad user experience. There is a reason why it is uncommon.

    I don't open the homepage.
simple solution: just use mym.li/f ,It'll take you straight to the forums.

    Well, it used to.
It still does, sorta. but it gives you an error, with a link to the forums. seems legit xD

Yea an active thread going a full week without a single staff response is pretty bad.....

@SirWill ultimately it's your homepage, care to comment?
