As the current overworld is destroyed everywhere and it is hard to find a spot which looks fresh the server is going to be reset.

The new server is already available under the IP below and the old one will be shutdown in one week (2. October).

    New Servers Launch Times:
    Patron T3: Now!
    Patron T2:
Wednesday, 26th September at 10am CEST
Others: Thursday, 27h September at 10am CEST

    New IP: tekkit2.mym.li

Hard-Reset As always it will be a hard reset. That means inventories, MyM's, Claims.. will not carry over.
If you redeemed kits, server upgrades or claim blocks within the last 2 weeks on one of those listed servers we are happy to refund those on request.

Base Download Those that would like to continue on their bases in single player or on their own server are welcome to download the base during the next week with /wd.

Isn't it easier to just wipe the server istead of creating a new one? (or is it not possible for some kind of reason?)
I am going to enjoy the last days of the world I started playing 1 week ago :(

I thought the debate on the forum post about this was either deadlocked or leaning away from a reset. What was the decision-making process, here?

We refrain from making official statements in forum posts regarding world resets as it demoralizes players or drives them away.
As such, the decision was made internally.

I hope to have answered your question,
    Kind wishes,

It's sad to see all out hard work go, but this opens up new opportunities to all players. We'll have better areas to build bases and towns, we'll have more places for everyone, rather than crowding into the few spaces that aren't griefed. Look at this as an opportunity, not a setback

I'm curious how did it get so bad? Also when an entire server has to be wiped doesn't that mean the griefers won?

The wonderful staff team have figured out a balance to keep the overworld from being completely destroyed again. So yes and no, the griefers did and didn't win.

It is not easier to reset the existing world, plus if we do it this way, it gives players time to download their base, and there isn't a period of time where there is no server to play on.

I'm confused by the logic. "Telling players about a reset demoralizes them or drives them away". No, the reset itself does that.

I am intrigued to see this new balance system and how it allows for endgame freedoms without making griefing easy. But this feels like a temporary fix to a permanent modpack problem that hopes to attract new players while ignoring the needs of the old. It feels like a poor fix.

I can vouch for this. I used to play a nice Anime based Ragnarok Online private server, it was very active. The admin decided to reset the server and lower the level caps for balance reasons, a lot of players were furious and over half the player base quit. It never recovered and died a year later.

The reason why we lock "Reset (insert your server)" threads is because of all the arguments. If you look at the last thread we had about a player asking this, it just ending up in argument. In SirWill's post, it explains why we are doing it.
This is to give player's time to download their bases to use in single player if they wanted to while the new server is out and running. When we actually shut down the old server, we then point the old IP to the new server.

This has kinda always been the underlying problem with Tekkit in the beginning. We try NOT to limit what the modpack has to offer but people going out and destroying things "Because it is fun." is what causes the state of the overworld. We have disabled a couple more item's AOE abilities to hopefully fix this.

What if I want to download the base just before the "reset" so my I don't lose the progress I've made? I've already downloaded it, but it is 7 days untill the "reset" and these 7 days of progress might or will be lost.

Then you can download it again right before the reset.

Weird. I don't have any of my claim blocks or MyMs. Can someone help me with that? I feel I should keep the stuff that I helped the server to obtain.

He probably bought them recently as his post states, you likely didn't. The main post also has this in it:
