I can't figure out how to create our first gear to create the gear mold for either the smeltery or the metal press, because every crafting recipe requires something with a gear that can only be made with either the smeltery or metal press but also requires a gear to make the mold, basically a paradox.
Hello AquaticTheOwl, You should be able to make a stone or wooden gear to make the mold from. Let me know if that helps. HanoverFist69

It is a stone gear with gold or aluminum brass poured over it, I have tested it and it works just fine
