Hi, I've been playing TDT since a few hours after it opened, and have had intermittent problems with lag, but it usually resolves itself within a few seconds. Today (the last 2 hours), I have had amounts of lag that make the game unplayable. It takes me six or seven tries to log in, and most of the time it times out. If I get in, it takes a LONG time for me to catch up with the server. Once the chunks are all loaded, it seems to be fine; The TPS, however, averages between 8 and 12. Could this be the cause? Some other players mentioned chat and block lag, but nothing this bad. If there's a network problem, it's probably affecting me more because I'm in Australia. Hell, it could even be localized there from a broken subterranean cable - I'm just hoping it's server lag and not something else, because websites open fine and Garry's Mod multiplayer works perfectly with USA hosts, averaging a ping of 300-380ms Sorry if this uncovers a problem with your host
Please run this Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test And be honest about you speeds. Also MyM uses 2 Ips for this pack. trilogy.mym.li & trilogy.mineyourmind.net I find that on the first one i get 30 MS but on the other my ping is like 150MS. To see you ping, highlight the single bar at the multiplayer screen, its right next to the numbers that tell you how many players are online. Right above the check mark.
Thanks. I'll start from the bottom up For the servers, my pings right now are 1012ms and 387ms. Refreshed, 7845ms and 4153ms. Refreshed again, 387ms and 452ms. I think I might be having trouble with whichever route I need to MyM On Ookla, my results are: To Sydney: Ping: 67ms Download speed: 5.25 Mb/s (Average is usually 6-7) Upload speed: 0.27 Mb/s (Average is usually 0.15 - Lucky me!) To Brisbane: Ping: 91ms Download speed: 5.69 Mb/s Upload speed: 0.30 Mb/s To Ishikari in Japan: Ping: 193ms Download speed: 5.29 Mb/s Upload speed: 0.32 Mb/s To Aberdeen UK: Ping: 375ms Download speed: 2.19 Mb/s Upload speed: 0.28 Mb/s (shouldn't this scale down with download speed?) To Eureka, CA, USA Ping: 219ms Download speed: 6.34 Mb/s (An international connection better than interstate? I call throttling) Upload speed: 0.33 Mb/s (Same. Wow) Edit: pings have stabilised at 384 and 389 ms[DOUBLEPOST=1418349593,1418344054][/DOUBLEPOST]
I would say your lag was a combination of a low TPS and high ping. It should clear up "soon" run the command /cofh tps to see if its the server Run the command /ping to see if its you. If the replie Pong is instant your fine, if it takes time that means its you
I had marked it for a hard update when the restart happened, but it's getting stuck at 1.3% downloaded for over five minutes. Everything downloaded fine with the FTB launcher using version 1.0.1, and it opens fine. Ping says 383ms, but I can't log in without timing out again.[DOUBLEPOST=1418353109,1418352247][/DOUBLEPOST]Tried logging into a competing server that shall remain nameless hosted in the US, it worked fine. Maybe it's the Australia -> Germany link that's playing up?[DOUBLEPOST=1418353818][/DOUBLEPOST]OVH reported no faults, speed test was fine. It's reminding me now of an issue I had previously that resolved after a hard format. I guess I've been wanting to go back to Arch for a while, Windows has too many distractions. I'll report back in a few hours and let you know
I try It either gets stuck on "Reading package manifest" with no network activity, or downloads at about 10kB/s until 1.3 to 1.7%, then all network activity stops I'll try deleting everything and doing it one more time before I whip out a blank DVD [DOUBLEPOST=1418354963,1418354338][/DOUBLEPOST]8 minutes later, nothing downloaded. 115 of 115 mods remaining, network activity is absolute zero apart from Chrome doing background stuff and Bitdefender checking for updates for a few seconds [DOUBLEPOST=1418355284][/DOUBLEPOST]Hats just downloaded. 114 left[DOUBLEPOST=1418356958][/DOUBLEPOST]Still on 114 remaining, ended up cancelling it. There is a fault in the cable from Perth to (Singapore or India, can't remember), so maybe they're fixing it or rerouting around it, which would explain why it's back yet slow for Germany but fast for the USA
Players from Australia always had high pings and issues during peak time (local Australia time). If you would like to see where the connection is going and where the ping is going up, packet loss appearing. Run winmtr on the servers IP for about 10 minutes, if you don't mind post it on pastebin.com and link it (Copy as TXT).
It seems to be okay now. Do you still want me to run it anyway, or leave it until (if) it happens again?
good to hear. If it happens again let winmtr run for a while, than you can see where on the road-map the ping goes up and packet loss arises.
I kinda had a feeling this would "clear" up. I have a simalar ping to some US servers, and it the server is "struggling" a little TPS wise it would effect me very bad. Once that cleared my preformance would return. Glad to hear the resolved itself...
