Hello, my name is Roo31 and I have been playing modded minecraft for about 3 or 4 years. I really like these servers, and I think that adding the Towny plugin would improve the gameplay and player interaction of them. With both Towny and golden-shovel, players would be able to band together if they wanted with towny, while at the same time retaining the individual protection of golden-shovel. It would also improve the server economy by providing a way to spend money that is not only on player-sold items. Below, I have listed some of the pros and cons of adding this plugin. Please discuss! Pro's of adding Towny+Goldenshovel Allow players to interact with each other at a more personal level IE, band together to defeat mobs, work towards endgame(Moon, Mars), central power stations. Improve server economy by providing a money sink Retaining goldenshovel would allow players to still live alone and have the protection that golden-shovel provides Would possibly reduce the amount of chunks loaded at a time because of player centralization, thus reducing lag Con's of adding Towny+Goldenshovel Towny does not provide full protection for modded items and blocks To use Towny, a source of income would be necessary Solution: Mcmmo is already included, possibly give some amount of money per block broken or built Living together can always cause strife between players Solution: Retaining golden shovel would allow players to keep their stuff private, and only share things they wanted to in Towny public areas
I commented on the old thread regarding Towny, but unfortunately it was never checked. I understand that there has been past conversation regarding the plugin, but I'm not sure whether the two were considered compatible and used together. I've seen both Towny and Golden Shovel being used in one server before, I mean even if there are two worlds for it. Towny World, Golden Shovel world, Farm World. > Players start in Golden shovel world, and they get the option to RT through the Towny World. The only issue I see with Towny being added is, that it doesn't provide full protection for Modded items and blocks considering it's not made for modded minecraft at all. I think that's where an advertisement of - Join at your own risk, telling them why it's a risk ect. I'd love to see Towny on B-team, it would be a great addition to the server, and I think doing the Towny World + Golden Shovel world helps too. It doesn't segregate anyone considering items can be transferred through and between.
Hey, thank you very much for the suggestion. We had a big thread about the topic before which can be found here: IDEA: Should we switch to Towny either on certain server(s)/universally | MineYourMind Community
I read that, and it was more aimed towards replacing goldenshovel with towny. I think it would be preferable to have both, as Ben said above, and they are very compatible mods.
Interesting, i like the idea of towny to boost the economy but that being said, Grief prevention is the better of the two when it comes to protection and flexibility. With towny you would have an upkeep for every chunk in your town(daily), What would make you use that verse just buying claim blocks and expanding as you go. Lets say your town falls due to not having MyMs or you being inactive, your items become unprotected. In my opinion if the server does use towny it would need to be on a separate world that has PvP/ raiding on. Without the two towny seems pointless.
I agree that there should be a separate world for towny, but there is the issue of it not protecting all modded blocks/items. Honestly, I really don't like pvp or raiding on modded minecraft, as I feel like it takes away from the fun of building showy thing. I think a good compromise would be to have only a small amount of blocks available to use with the goldenshovel on the townyworld, say 1 chunk size. Also, I think that many players would join towny just for the fun of being in a town with other players(building together, community workshops/power), even without pvp.
Yeah, grief prevention really allows you nearly all the stuff that towny does. Did you ever check the subclaim system and the trust levels?
I didn't know that grief protection could do that stuff, that's pretty cool. I guess a few of the things that I like that it doesn't provide are the ease of use of towny, the precise configuration of plots, and the town name-tags. It would also make the server economy more pronounced by providing a money sink imo.
There is no way to force them but you also don't need to pay taxes like with towny. You only need MyM's to expand the claim.
I think one of the main things that were interesting about Towny was the whole taxing thing. If we would need MyM's to expand the claims, can they be expensive if this idea is to happen?
