So while on one of our many exciting modpacks I thought to myself, how far realistically are we from having better servers that can cope with higher inputs? I know there's a cost to run the servers through hosting but I was just wondering if we are getting closer to having servers that run smoother so we don't have constant people moaning about lag.
    Just wondering
    Much love

Years, depending on how the cpu technology develops.
We have 1270v3 processors. The best enterprise single thread cpu only has 4% more power, costs 3 times as much as the 1270v3 and is not available at any datacenters, which would mean colo hosting resulting in doubling the costs and we would end up with maybe 4% more power for around 5-6 times the cost and in case something breaks, well we have pay for the new hardware and especially the expensive technicians our self (technicians are at around 50€ per 1/4 hour) :D

We will just have to make do with what we have then I guess.
A man can dream of lag less server running smoothly at 20tps. Maybe one day with technology going in the direction it is that dream will become a reality.
At least people can't blame the you for having terrible processors now XD
I guess servers are just a massive trail and error to get right.
They say perfection comes at a price.
O well I'm happy with my 10fps on many modpacks so xD
    Thanks

Acually most of the MyM server has often 20tps, many of the problems arent the server itself it is the modpack that we are hosting. Like the ender IO conduit bundles drain a quite large amount of the tps, same with the open blocks fans. And ofcourse the amount of players on one server. This is espacially with the new 1.7 packs as they havent been that modifed to make the least amount of lag

I know modpacks use a hell of alot TPS as well as vanilla mobs, The Question was about when and if the servers would get updated to handle this sort of problem and make all modpacks servers run at a smooth 15 - 20 tps. One can dream though. (Not all run at 15 - 20tps)

The server isent the problem the code from the mods are the ones that are eating tps. Even if we would have one of the best servers it would still lag because of th players their builds etc.

Is it possible to create a tread in every modpack and tell what blocks use a lot of tps? So that we can avoid them.
