Hey, I haven't gotten around about sharing the information of the status of the direwolf node 2 server which is dying every two hours. So lets put it straight. The issue: chunks do not unload huge amount of entities extreme long shutdown time (chunk unload) There is an issue which keeps chunk's loaded. Meaning you travel across the country and all the areas you passed stay loaded, this includes that all the entities (items on the ground, mobs, animals, projectiles..) stay loaded and use tremendous amounts of resources. Than once the server shuts down and unloads the +200k chunks quite some time passes. (There have been times with +5k of each animal lurking the server down to 1-2 tps). What has been done so far: restart timer reduced to 3, later 2 hours entities killed from time to time force unloading chunks (doesn't work) chunk gc (doesn't work) Further notes: I heard of this issue before from Ryan (forsaken network) once he asked me if I knew anything and if we have the same issue. I couldn't help him at this time as we had been fine and we never encouraged it that big. As we got into the same issue with node 2 I messaged him asking if they did find anything out. Unfortunately they never did and solved the issue with a server reset. (nothing I wanna do at this point) As Node 1 has the exact same setup as Node 2 it is likely to be related to the world it self, maybe the version it was generated with, I will be doing a lot of testing on this part once possible. Planned: testing if the issue is 100% replicable with a testing setup loading the region files on node 1 loading the entire world on node 1 .. If nothing helps: If nothing helps we either have to live with the frequent restarts or move to a new node with the hope of the issue not reappearing.
I found this : [MC-49688] Minecraft does not properly unload chunks (bad/missing chunk garbage collection) - JIRA It seems related as it is 1.7.4. And has to do with minecraft itself. (sorry if this is something you have already found and is totally useless)
there is a difference of chunks not unloading on their own and not being able to force unload them :/
Cheers for the update and I'm sure I'm not alone in the thought that, should it be necessary or resolving, I'd be OK with a map reset. After all a game is better than no game at all.
Question... if we generate a world with the same seed as node 2 and just replace the broken region files on node 2 with the regions from the newly generated world, could that work?
The issue seems to be gone, I haven't seen more than 400 chunks loaded per player for a few days now. It is likely that Node 3 will start this week. edit: it just did it again: +800 chunks per player
Sods law that is, just when everything looks perfect... Node 3 ay mmmm, will it be the same mechanic as N2 i.e. transfer of inventory and vote benefits etc? Cheers,
can we get intra-linking pages in the mym shop so we dont need to run long distances and load alot of meaningless chunks
Intra linking can be made: trow gold dust in an ink mixer to get a chance of getting it. More gold dust = greater chance of getting it but also greater chance to get the other effect you get by gold dust (eg. disarm)
Is the issue still here? I've been logged off for the whole night, and found out my reactor ran through 3.5 stacks of Yellorium while I was away.
If your reactor is in multiple chunks, then it may have bugged out. If they cross chunk borders, it is possible for them to loose all fuel when the chunk is re-loaded. The issue with the chunks not un-loading is still there however, so it is also a possibility. As a precaution, please press f9 twice in-game, and make sure your reactor is in 1 chunk. If it is crossing borders, please re-assemble it in one chunk.
