After numerous attempts, I've failed to get a portal to actually activate. They're being recognized as being complete, as placing the sign gives the "Power this sign with redstone" message in chat, though giving it power does nothing.
I made this thread because the only other thread that I've found that even mentions this problem seems to list in as a side note to lag and time out problems, which are already constant and we've learned to live with for the most part. The portal issues were listed in very little detail and in such a way that it could be interpreted as normal nether portals not working, something we are already well aware of.
