This is just a for-your-information type post. Of course you can feel free to disregard it, if it is out of the question. Possibly it has already been discussed somewhere. I just thought I'd say it so everyone would know, no harm in trying right? Well here goes..

    *ahem*

This is about the sticks we all know and love. It used to be that sticks for claiming land were great, mods didn't really use them for in-world interaction and they didn't do anything on their own. They are still great, they just seem to have some competition.

Now I might be wrong about this, but I feel many new users might run into this problem:

There are now "place-able" sticks which are used for neatly attaching arrowed sign posts. Also they are used on bookshelves. This did work for the backward linking tool, but not the upgrade tool where you end up having to use a force stick, which is fine they are free. Some newcomers might find the workaround obvious, others not. I think it will be random most likely.

I think something might need to be done, even if it is just a command to turn off stick-claim mode temporarily when using sticks for one of its other uses, and having the command hint when using the stick, which could potentially stop many tickets from ever having to be made.

I'm aware that this has always been the item of choice for claims and changing it would likely be out of the question, especially since other items might end up having the same issues with interaction in the future.

I know staff has its hands full right now with plugin migration on many levels, just putting it out there, maybe we can file it away as a TODO for way later or something, as it is probably not the most important thing to worry about right now. Like I said, this is just a "for your information" type post.

    Have a nice day!

Are you talking about the conflict with the stick claim tool and the mods that place the sticks in the world?

I believe the problem is with the Pedestals mod. Right now I am trying to create an Upgrade Tool. It requires having a gold ingot in your off hand, and a stick in your mainhand, then right-clicking a bookshelf with the stick. Unfortunately the claim mod is interferring with this functionality.

Fortunately, the random Force Sticks that I have been given work for this purpose.

So… The question then becomes, if we are able to swap the stick for some other tool (like this), which item would it be practical to swap it with?

You can turn off or on the stick claim tool by using the command /gd mode tool which makes it a normal stick. On other servers there's an alias for the command /stick but it's not available on the 1.19 servers yet.

@BetaPetey maybe an option to have it disabled by default. If we can have the command to disable the tool on first login, and then have a message sent to the player using /mail to explain how to turn it on?
