So love me, or hate me, I've been building a train track on IE server 6. And what I've learned so far (and I've only covered probably 40% of the border) is that there are a lot of badly savaged areas. Areas that get stripped the worst are volcanic areas where people clearly strip mine basalt. I also have found some nice rarer biomes like the Ominous woods, and a jungle with very nice Amaranth trees. A good cherry grove, almost completely decimated of cherry trees. I got a lot of negative feedback on my last post about changing the farmworld seed, and it seems most of that was effort trying to argue my premise based on some technicality that I can't actually prove whether or not a jungle biome exists, when really I mainly was arguing for a better seed. But I understand the reason that these resources are stripped out of the main world is that many of these are extremely rare if they exist at all (and yes, I'll concede that I have not explored 100% of farmworld, but I do spend extensive time there). Now, I'd probably leave it at that except that as I motor along on my regular trips along my track I notice that there is an abundance of abandoned plots. And in fact almost every one without exception has been griefed. Some are griefed by inadequate claims. There's one building by x1000,z-3000 that's cleanly sheared off around 20% of the edge of the building. Clearly the claim expired, and it was rolled back. It seems obvious to me the intent was to 'undo' that claim, yet there's a huge deformed area now that can't be griefed and so forever becomes enshrined as some post apocalyptic reminder of a player that may never come back. And I remember all the stuff I lost when my stuff was deleted (and yeah, you warned me it was possible). I lost irreplaceable objects that I'll never replace because the game changes it's policy over time. So, for example, all my highly energized nodes from Bees...gone. I'm not going to rebuild them from primordial pearls. It got me thinking, all those claims expired, and all those stripped resourced deleted, and due to a total lack of claims or inadequate claims, that terrain doesn't get regenerated. Those resources are dwindling to the point where new player only chance of getting those materials is griefing the overworld and hoping they don't get caught. Since one of the reasons I still play on this server is the simple fact that it (so far) doesn't reset, or at least, doesn't reset excessively, I absolutely am not advocating a server reset. Isn't there some way you could change the farm world generation (or provide some other dimension, perhaps as a server perk we could buy) that would spin out a world that would have these rarer resources like Basalt, Amaranth trees, maybe even Thaumcraft cultists and meteors? Some of the fun of the game is using the meteor detector and getting skystone. Yeah, you can get it with bees, or salvage what's left from craters, but that's got to be a turn off for new players... Otherwise maybe there could be a way that we could request areas that have been abandoned for more than two weeks be regenerated with world edit. Anyway, thanks for reading, and bonus points if you made it this far. - Ubi.
