It was brought to my attention by another player that we can't start fires. I tried it with the flint and steel to confirm it, and then I tried using a firecharge in case it was a conflict with the flint and steel, but that didn't work either. Lighting fire onto a block of netherrack is useful for several mods that require a fire under an item, and it's more convenient than dropping a bucket of lava (Assuming that even works for all of them).

Grief prevention should only be active around claims; I've tried starting fires in the mining world and it doesn't work.
It's a long standing issue I suppose it could be the pvp plug in I found threads that go back a year or longer with the same issue
I know with lava on some servers, if another player was nearby, you couldn't place it, couldn't that be done for the flint and steel and fire charges too?
could be, but it would be at the end of the todo list as it isn't blocking anything or providing a major improvement
Both the fire charge and the flint and steel refuse to work inside the claim, no messages given, they just don't get used up.
