My brother sans has been pestering me to try Fallout. so I finally decided to try it and steam and poked my head onto steam to see how much it would put me out.

all weekend this past weekend fallout 4 was free to play, so I tried it, appearantly this is the first time they did it.

mind blown, I taped a couple boss battles with bandicam and the entire journey through Kellog's memories. Did side quests, put some defenses and amenities on my settlement, squealed over Nick's snarkiness and wondered if I could adopt Piper as a foster sister. <3 also...

    DON'T... MESS... WITH DOGMEAT... EVER.

no seriously, you'll get an electrical baton to the face with me yelling "DON'T MESS WITH MY DOG YOU JERK!" at the computer screen.

so if anybody wants me to upload raw footage to youtube of Kellog blasting me to smithereens a few dozen times before I figured out he had supplies in his boss room /and/ that I could evade him by sneaking, let me know I'll pop it onto youtube and link it. also, I taped the whole sequence through the darn twisted bugger's memories and examined each memory at least twice, so lemme know if someone wants to see any of this. I'm trying to learn video editing so I can clean up footage.

also, anybody know a good free video editor and audio recorder with no third party software insisting on shoving its way onto your computer and sitting there, lemme know. I kinda wanna clean this up and add some commentary. I had a BLAST.

Kellog actually isnt that big of a deal. I just used Pickman's Knife to hunt him down. You can literally kill anyone with pickmans knife.

are you saying there was a way to one shot him all this time? *sweatdrop* excuse my noobishness, I spent 3 hours examining my collection of weapons and trying them on him in turn. I just could NOT get the timing right.

I mean I'm not used to bathesda's "system" but damn. they made a SINGLE weapon that's his Achilles heel?

where is this pickman's knife anyway?

also why does amazon not have a Nick Valentine Plushie? >.> I like him way more than Piper. She gets so easily distracted its DUMB. I mean how do I keep this girl focused? no wonder so many people want to kill her.

Forgive my noobishness. I mainly play minecraft for a reason. Because $$$$$$$$$$, of which I have very few. And I like my garden and extensive collection of vegetable seeds.

    I also love gardening ;)

So pickmans blade doesnt oneshot. It acts like a normal dagger slicing fast and only using about 1/5 of your stamina in V.A.T.S. What makes it op is the increased damage and a blooding-effect that stacks. With the correct perks it turns a deadly stealth weapon also suitible for various combat targets.

You need to find pickman in his house called "Pickman's Gallery". It's located northeast of Diamond City. Either kill the raiders plagueing him or kill Pickman himself to obtain a key to open a safe behind a painting of Pickman. Beware, Pickman is a serial killer who likes to draw paintings with the blood of his victims ;)

I've already been to that city, you aren't spoiling the location I just haven't explored it yet. lemme try that spoiler bracket... also Baker's Creek Seed Catelog has some great looking varieties, you should see if they have any of them available where you are it says in the notes under your userpic you're german? I think they have some varieties of tomato meant for cooler climates, I was able to get black krim and old german tomato seeds on clearance at Walmart (not from baker ;.;)

ok lets see the script command should be...

as I said I've been to diamond city, when I actually buy the game (hopefully next month) I'm planning to explore the area around the cities I had main line quests in. I was in a hurry, free for two days on steam and day 1 was half wasted with rl stuff and long download time. Also, serial killer and raiders are both not worth the mercy. If a raider ran away and didn't come back I wouldn't chase him.

what's actually gotten me so interested in Kellog is the contrast between him and the sole survivor. His motives are purely in his head and how he sees him/her, in my case her. He sees himself in the sole survivor, his grief in her eyes his rage in her eyes and when you confront him he knows he's gonna get it.

What has me interested here is the contrast between Kellog and your character. You both lost your families, but because of his childhood he turned to the dark side and lost himself in the primal carnage of the wasteland. You as the sole survivor however had a stable social childhood and yet find yourself in his position and facing the darkside. I also believe the purpose of having your character journey through Amari's machine has a spiritual purpose on bathesda's part, asking your character to forgive Kellog because he lives in every human who's ever confronted grief.

THAT is why I'm so interested in the storytelling around the whole Kellog vs your character confrontation.

also i'm new to Bathesda's combat system, so sue me for wanting to examine it in detail when faced with a rage inducing boss fight. I mean I went leaping on the guy with a Chinese officer sword, a shock baton, an institute rifle, each time I got blasted in the face with a grenade. So I snuck into a corner and sulked and watched what Nick was doing to see if the NPC would reveal anything about the situation that was helpful. That's when I noticed the office dividers. They're stable, some furniture I'd seen could be knocked over. I decided to use them as defensive barriers and see if hide and seek worked better than enraged momma bear.

And by the time I go after the institute that's the image I kinda want to present, an enraged mother bear hellbent on saving her cub. I don't want to rip them to pieces though, not really. lol of course that's because I think they're flirting with death with half their experiments I mean these guys are just asking to die. They're playing God with no thought to what their creations can do. I've been watching Shoddycast's "THE SCIENCE" and "RETHINKING" videos on Fallout if half the stuff Austin's poking with a stick in those videos is true, the Synths that have made Fallout4 so infamous are fully capable of destroying the institute or taking it over, and its gonna take synths like Nick that have actually stopped to think about it to halt the tide.

But then again, I only have up till learning about Doctor Virgil to go on, and I refuse to look at a lets play or guide to spoil it. so take what i'm about to say about Nick with a grain of salt. I'm examining my footage very carefully trying to understand the characters more closely. I think characters like Nick and Hancock are statements about the fate of racial minorities in a post apocalypse especially Nick. Believe me, when I get to him Hancock is gonna get this treatment too I'm just singling out Nick because I have more data on him and I'm rapidly becoming a rabid fangirl here.

I've been thinking about this guy too, and I think he has the power to change the fate of the other Synths in the commonwealth. This is a character that seems to have given his existence a LOT of thought. As far as charisma I really think he has the power to trigger a lot of violence on his behalf, probably more so than the thinks. Or maybe not. Nick seems very aware of himself. More so than some humans I've seen irl. If any character I've seen can help the Synths become as human in mind as they are in form its him. He tolerated being beaten on for the sake of forgiveness. He fights beside humans and forms bonds with them. That is the path that's needed for the synths to become more than robots. Not only self awareness but social behavior and bonding.

The opposite is true. If Nick turns on humans in general he could easily start a rebellion and have to be killed for the sake of the entire wasteland's human population. My thoughts on the Synths is that they need genuine social bonding to become human equals. I REALLY want to test more of the advanced ones. The courser I saw in the flashback could potentially be EXTREMELY dangerous, but he might be able to become more human if social bonding is enabled.

Of course, all this focuses on the idea of making the Synths a parallel sentient species to humans and Ghouls that recovered their sanity. Its no exaggeration that there's the potential for a terminator style confrontation minus Skynet or even that they would replace normal humans in the wasteland. I'm not sure how they'd respond to recovered Ghouls like Hancock.

But I also believe Nick was meant to help provide commentary on race and existentialism in the wasteland. And he's by far my favorite though I dunno I haven't seen enough of Hancock yet to see if he's fangirl worthy. But also I can identify a LOT with Nick. I've been engrossed in existential contemplation since I was a child. The whole world just seemed stupid the way it seemed on the surface. There had to be some underlying reason why humans are the way they are. I didn't want to socialize with other children who weren't interested in finding or able to provide an answer. Yes I know its abnormal. Humans are strong because of social bonds.

Its what makes Fallout 4's sole survivor and Nick Valentine so powerful as characters, both physically and charismatically. The Sole survivor fights to establish a social bond with the wasteland's inhabitants. Nick is really only sane because he's formed an attachment to the people of Diamond City.

    I think that's Fallout 4's secret.

I have bandicam and my bro gave me his old editor cdrom.

Still thinking about mic though. My old machine's stereoplugs were broken for a loooong time. I could only use usb ports, which rapidly turned lousy. It didn't want me to use all my usb ports.

The problem is that I only have so much money in a month. Not desperately so. I'm not forgoing saaaay, food to afford gaming gear. I can't afford a car though, and have to use a credit card to pay for vet and dental bills (blame all the people who got their pets taken care of then skipped out on the bill for that first one at EVERY vet in town.)

And I want a GOOD mic that can take a beating. I'm not kidding. I am very hard on my headphones. Blocking out loud street noise with my mp3 player for example, helps me get out of the house and gives me a sort of a jolt of energy. The problem is that to do that I have to block out external noise to the point where I can't hear anything outside of my earbuds.

Studying up also because I kind of have an idea for a project, "Criminal Minds Commonwealth" is the working title. Use Dr. Michael Stone's "Scale of Evil" to profile opponents in Fallout 4 using the story and fights with them the way a real life criminal profiler would use a crime scene and the wounds on a victim's body.

Edit: And sorry Ellie, I'm going to be monopolizing Nick Valentine for that. Don't worry I'll send him back in one piece.

Edit Edit: also, what can you guys tell me about Fallout's faction system? Can you take over leadership of a faction and replace its leader? Can I make alliances between two factions.

Example: Getting the Railroad and the Institute and a bunch of Synths to turn on the brother hood of steel.

Can I do something like this? Or do I need a mod?
