I originally was NEVER going to join the forums, i just wasn't interested, but i've had enough of Millenaire mod bugging on regrowth. I have to make a few suggestions and complaints and call staff to clean some of this up. Millenaire is my favorite mod of all time, I'm VERY well versed in its quirks, its use, and its disadvantages including tendency to lag both single player and server. Please excuse any inventive sayings, they're my desperate attempt not to scream and curse at people. If i were saying this on voice chat I'd be yelling quite loudly. Basically, Millenaire villages have begun to bug, the triggers of which I'm listing... 1. Villages being too close together, there are like 10 norman villages a couple thousand blocks north of my village. They're all so close together that they're ripping holes in each other's buildings where their boarders overlap. I know the Norman armor is supposedly double O freakin P but STOP. You're contributing to server lag and making the norman district hard to navigate with any remaining sanity. I can't tell what village is what and its making me angry as an Enderminy being stared at by a circus crowd. You don't NEED that many norman villages. And if you just keep building them and don't develop them so that they look nice you're just going to bug the server and anger the other players plus nobody will make norman armor if they can't advance their smiths. Pick one village and back it, don't make new ones. 2. Newbies stealing from villages, STOP IT ALREADY! I've found holes ripped in buildings, town centers missing floors, houses with no walls. If you sell them just a few stacks of wood, cobble and bread, you can BUY all the building materials you want. I built my house on my claim of timber frames. Frames that I BOUGHT legit from Norman and Japanese villages. I BOUGHT the paths I used from the Byzantines. There's even artwork unique to each culture you can buy. Stealing from walls is unnecessary, makes the AI for the mod GLITCH LIKE FREAKIN GOLDEN FREDDY ON CAFFINE! (*yes i'm desperately trying to avoid cursing to follow server rules I'm SO angry right now*) 3. Newbies squatting in villages, claiming them, and then never coming back so the chunk wiper removes the town center, this has happened to a couple norman villages and a japanese village that I know about. Whoever left their stuff in the norman guild village with the huge hole in it? Yeah i took your food and sold it to the village BUILD OR BUY YOUR OWN HOUSE DAGNABIT!!!!!! If villages don't have town centers, there's literally no way for staff or players to control the AI for the village other than using the chunk wiper to destroy them. The wand of negation (which disbands and destroys villages) doesn't have a crafting recipe, so players that want to help the server staff and player base out by wiping out excess or glitched villages CAN'T. They can't advance because they can't store supplies for building, food for their people, ect. I've tried using a chest purloined via dolly from one of the houses and a hopper to fix the bug and give them supplies to repair with, it made my game crash and I didn't just make one attempt I made three or four including rebooting my computer. Bugs 1. Village vendors spam chat with "I'll be right there!" -workaround: right click the vendor with an empty hand, hold down the right click button hard and keep trying till it works. Some of the buildings you have to be fast to catch the vendor before they register you aren't there. Other times the vendor will stay in their home and not come anywhere near you. -theory about cause: I've seen this happen close to reset time, but I've seen it happen the most in areas where there's an active village with a damaged town center suggesting that the AI may be busy and just not register the player and vendor locations. I don't know the programming, just the AI behavior. -notes: best time for staff to catch this is shortly before the server resets, run around at high speed from village to village, or fly, the error seems to be linked to slow loading. 2. villagers stay in spawned area and never move, repeatedly regrouping at the part of their house they spawn in and repeatedly move a few blocks away only to glitch back to spawn again. 3. raids are drawn out by lag and glitching - notes: this may just be in general there not being enough resources for the mod's AI. The fighters don't register damage, freeze for a second, regain their health from the previous blow and then attack. I strongly suspect drawn out raids are connected to the diplomacy function. how players can help: every day you get 5 points of diplomacy you can use with the village chief. how effective they are depends on your status within the village, try to get friend of the village or better and put those points to praising any village who's status is "open conflict." Villages marked "open conflict" are the ones that village will attack. If the status is not "open conflict" no raids will be launched on that village to take up server resources. The relief it brings the server may be light but every bit counts. Suggestions 1. Take charge - it may seem too simple but psychologists working on the psychology of internet use have found that when staff has a definitive presence and firm chain of command, and when they lay down the law in a way that satisfies the most number, that incidents of grief, trolling and damage decrease. Likewise if staff shows a definitive presence in investigating and using the Millenaire mod on the server and in making sure villages are spawned in fair numbers and not spammed and that everyone has equal access to non glitchy non player owned villages they are showing that they care about the mod and the lag it brings to the server and helping to discourage squatting and theft from an npc village that normally would be up for grabs it if were just another round of testificates. 2. Limit players to one controlled village until they've proved A. consistant attendance on the server, B. fully upgraded, all available space used, C. have to be inspected by staff for A and B, at which point staff has to APPROVE a second, third, ecetera player village. Player controlled villages MUST be claimed to prevent theft and griefing of village blocks that could bug the AI. By doing this the player is demonstrating that they have the skills to manage a large group of NPCs and that they can secure that space /and/ that they are proficient in the Millenaire mod's use. This goes a long way IMO towards making access to player owned villages fair without wrek facing the server. 3. Staff have control of village spawn. Not players, staff. I trust moderators and admin on here to administer matters fairly. Have one of EVERY type of village, plus any player controlled villages, and have them protected just like spawn is as public locations. Have theft or griefing of these villages as punishable as destroying a server spawn or market. 4. Have regrowth staffers become familiar with this mod and strike up a dialogue with its creators/dev team so that you can call them for help if something catestrophic happens as a result of something this mod did. I'll be very happy to teach Regrowth staff about this mod and how to use it and although I'd be stuck walking/tpaing to get to it, I would be happy to show the glitched villages to staff. In conclusion, this mod is one of my favorites of all time. To see it glitching and lagging the server is painful, to see holes in walls and missing towncenters is a serious case of #OMGTRIGGERED! My frustration with trying to patch holes and investigate glitches on my ownsome or with other interested players has finally reached Handsome Jack strangling mister so and so 'for bringing up my wife' levels. And the glitches are giving me flashbacks to watching FNAF lets plays and Golden Freddy's twitching in and out of reality like he's OD'd on caffine. I'm begging players on my knees who are involved in the above activities STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP IIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT! And down on my knees I'm begging and pleading for staff to organize matters related to this mod instead of banning it or using progression rules as an excuse to restrict access. This mod /can/ be for everyone and enrich the server and experience of the players on it. It just needs a little guidance and TLC. Thank you for your time, Reaper
Hi Reaper, unfortunately all of the suggestions are not possible based on either technical limitations or human resources. Our staff team is not big enough to have every server covered, hell not even every fifth. We value maturity and activity and therefor don't let every child that would like to have the title or power join the team. I can fully understand you but I fear that your ideal of the mod and server is not possible on a big public server. If you like, you could apply for staff and make it your mission, after all you probably have the biggest motivation for it.
I also fear for the sanity of those staffers higher up than me if i were to apply. as much as i love this mod and have an affection for Regrowth in specific, I'm not always all that patient with people when i ought to. I do however have no issue with being a staff guinea pig. Done that before on a different server network, that was fun because the two staffers I knew best there one of them had a twisted sense of humor. And I did seem to have the bad luck to find or touch off more bugs than more players >.< ("i mean seriously why did nobody think of putting that combination of mods together? its not my fault nobody thought of it!") But I do have reasons about my personality irl to hesitate and doubt my ability to take the responsibility. Leave the suggestion open in case I get up the nerve to try. But its not likely. As I said though, some of these glitched villages have to be thinned out. I love regrowth and i hate seeing it lag because somebody got carried away or decided to mooch. One of the glitched village clusters is a few thousand blocks north of my base. Please try to unravel it up there. I suspect the damaged villages are taking server resources. I also have an attachment to Regrowth in specific, being a dedicated amateur gardener irl and loving the plant theme underlaying the pack.
Yes Tyler someone or something was adding more villages. You should see them there's a building squeezing up against the town center for one of the first ones. I'm going to go coord hunting over the next couple days, take notes on the damaged/glitched villages and note down coords, name of village and issue for staff. Even with flight its a big server. If I give directions/details staff should be able to find the problems more easily. I think that may be part of the problem facing Slind and co trying to tame this issue.
I made 4 of the same time villages app 500 blocks apart for all types[DOUBLEPOST=1481509831][/DOUBLEPOST]I quit regrowth a while ago if my homes are still there that will help staff out
