This is something that has popped into my head a few times and I have searched a while and havent found anything else. My idea is to make mini-games to this network and I have listed a few ideas for games and possible implementations and construction/development of these Mini-game types Hunger Games Spleef Battle arena (mob or pvp) CTF (capture the flag) Castle walls Race for the wool King of the hill Maze (vanilla eh, but mod could be MUCH better) Implementation The implementation will vary on what is being made, or in particular how and methods Because of this I have made four categories each of which has their advantages and disadvantageous all with a possibility of adding plugins to assist in creation and make less lag/hardware requirements All these methods could be accompanied by command blocks but it would depend of development for how or if these would be feasible Custom Modpack A custom modpack would allow for specific mods to be added, allowing for modifications and more detail in what you want. The disadvantageous of this that I can see is that to get to mini-games you must download the pack from the launcher, then restart the client. This allows for plugins to be added easily as widespread release to each server wont have as many implementation problems and hardware stress Existing modpack This would allow for many same features of custom but would be better for quicker implementation but wouldnt be as great due to unused mods. The middle ground for these two may be to get a modpack then strip it down to the essentials. Is it possible to unload mods from client side? and server side Simple mechanics/universal used mods This idea revolves around using blocks and mechanics apparent to be universal on all modpacks and adding these in-game mini-games added to the map ie at or near spawn. This would be the most universal but has the large disadvantageous of not having as many features while also allowing for types like possibly king of the hill to either not be added or hard to be added. This being used would depend on what types of games would be made or wanted, for example is just maze was added it would be best to use this method Server specific Server specific is around the idea of making the game's being derived around the individual packs, for example you could have hunger games added to crashed landing which would add a interesting dynamic to this with not only the food but heat determining the way you play Construction/Development The construction is the bit that could go in any direction either limited by players, staff, quality builds or timing. Some ideas I have though are below Community made Community made mini-games are something I would prefer but depending on the the disadvantageous I have listed or you have it may be outweighed. For community the basic idea would be open source, by the network for the network, for this there are some basic ways to go to this I see either Allow anyone to send in games which is acceptable/implemented may be rewarded with something like credits/ranks Making a server or modifying an existing server to allow for a work space where anyone can get a plot, start building their idea and add or remove players for collaboration. This would allow for many different "Flavors" of the same game and if done correctly could allow for rapid development Buildings/aesthetic made by community with some/most of the mechanics made by staff Project leaders made by staff/community who will manage everything for the specific game/part The disadvantageous I can see is managing of people and progression not being as stable, getting people to build I can see to be easy with rewards Staff made Staff made should be fairly siuple with the one mechanic being that staff would put everything behind the scenes and make them in whatever way they want What is your guys thoughts? On everything.... I would rather have this thread just for the idea of having mini games on the network especially being modded, but if you have any ideas of mini-games suggest them on another thread and tag me. I would love to see what you guys could come up with
Love the idea but my biggest question is how mods would factor into this. The games would have to be super complicated since some people prefer magic mods/combat and others prefer tech mods/combat so say hunger games would have to incorporate ALL of that, leading to tons of possibilities and tons of work in terms of balancing, etc. Otherwise I think it'd be a pretty good idea.
I did think of that but didnt think it would be as such as a problem as with anything there is balancing, but if rapid prototyping was possible it wouldnt be hard to have one of each. As I said every type of flavor if anyone can make one As far as the possibilities I think thats its strong point and any balancing would come along with that, for example take a maze which in vanilla once you do one, youve done them all. The only way to upgrade it is to make piston everything a lot of redstone. But as far as mods there is massive amounts of possabilites especially in killing/harming
