    TLDR: automatically movable claims

Just an idea i've been toying with, what if we could create claims that centered around a certain block, so we could create a dire miner of sorts. (dire miner being the contraption dire wolf made in letsplay s6 ep42). if this certain block moved the whole claim would move. Obviously there will be complications such as the edge of the world and overlapping claims, but these could be worked out somehow.

It could also be used for other moving machines where you don't want to claim the entire strip of land.
There could also be other uses for it i just cant think of any right now.
If you have any ideas say them as a reply so this thread can get some steam :D

Edit1: Johnfg12 said funky locomotion also has moving parts so you could claim your automated train system
Edit2: Just as clarification: this is for claiming moving objects such as trains not actually moving the claim block by block

I wouldn't be opposed to this idea, but the true question is if this can be coded, and if it would be helpful. The problem with centering it around a block would be the fact that it would be more values the server would have to keep track of, as that means it would have to retain the claim information on pick up. The other concern would be how it works. Many enjoy the ability to manually set boundaries, allowing them to make unusual shapes if they need them. It would have to cover it, making the code even more complex in nature. Even further- if it would be convenient, or if it would turn into a nuisance to set claim boundaries.

I would like a staff opinion on this as i am not in a position to decide this.

Im hoping the poll would reveal this

just an idea: the claim would only be updated if the block is replaced or moved not if its stationary.

you could possibly use the same golden shovel mechanic but have the claim be "bound" to a block and thus if the block moves 1 block north the entire claim does

This is an extreme amount of work and tbh I see it as super low on priority list if it was done. A lot of things don't even move correctly with world edit copy/paste.

Not to mention, the "Dire Miner" is not really server friendly.

thats quite a good point if everyone had a quarry and direminer the tps would die so badly but maybe allow claims to be made by activators or something simular[DOUBLEPOST=1450516073][/DOUBLEPOST]i just like the idea of having a moving base :p

We wouldn't be moving the block itself only the claimed area.
We can already make a direminer i believe (havent tested it) so the impact on tps would be similar.

very true but with the claim moving as well that is alot of calcuations. and if there was many of them the tps would be really bad but tihs would be a really good feture for other things

Could someone tell me how resource intensive it is to claim an area then unclaim it? as that is essentially what this is doing

its not just that it will have to do when a person does it its not very but when the sever is running all these machines and then creating a claim uncrateing it and do that so many times plus the calculations for the movements plus the fact that funcky locomotion is laggy anyway it would be quite high

I do not think anyone has a Dire Miner on the server.
    Those things are server killers.

No i understand your concern, its a shame really, but from what i gather not much the server can do

Depending on how hard it is to implement a test run could happen and we could see the impact on server performance.
