Playing Sky Factory 2.5, I decided to play around with Thaumcraft (first time ever), and unknowingly gave myself permanent Warp. Mentioning it to a moderator, who happened to be in the chat at the time, they mentioned there was a previous game that allowed for players to pay MyMs to remove Warp from their character. If this is true, I would love to have this instated within Sky Factory 2.5. If this isn't possible, could there at least be limits placed on Warp? I'm afraid to delve much deeper into Thaumcraft, worried about disease and whatnot.
Hi, the feature to remove warp with MyM was implemented because too much warp could crashed the client at that time. There are means within thaumcraft to remove the warp which should be used.
The only means that I've seen are temporary, at best. They're more like putting a bandaid on a deep cut - sure, it helps a little, but in the end?
I'm a thaumcraft noob and all I know is from what I heard. Maybe some thaumcraft expert can tell you on how to get rid of it the it is intended to.
I certainly hope Dr Google is wrong, and that there actually is a way to remove it. I just made a mess, leaving behind flux goo. -_-
We only ever allowed the warp removal because warp was unstable and would crash you. Now: Let me explain Warp. There are 4 types: Permanent: This does not go down with any means other than commands. Normal: Does not go down by itself, but can go away if you use various items like sanitizing soap etc. Temporary: Goes down by itself. Can be fully removed immediately using items like sanitizing soap etc. Equipment: Some armour and tools will aggravate any effects gained while you hold/wear said items. However: The overall effect, is calculated from all of these together. If you have 100 temporary warp, 0 normal, 0 permanent, the effect will be exactly as strong, and exactly equal chance of getting a specific effect, as if you had 0 temporary, 50 normal and 50 permanent. However, here's something most do not know: Warp effects lessen over time if you do not gain any more warp! You will find that if you stay away from any warp research, don't eat rotten flesh, or craft anything that gives you warp, that the effects will take longer and longer to happen, until you will not even remember that you have warp at all. If you get unnatural hunger, I would recommend you just wait it out (or if you are on a pack with RFTools, get the environmental controller with the saturation card) instead of eating rotten flesh, which would give you more warp, resetting the "cooldown". I also advice you to lookup Botania. It has some cross-mod interaction with Thaumcraft, specifically the Brew of Sane Thoughts, which lessens the effect of Warp. You can get a much longer lasting effect(~2h) in a certain area(~25x25 blocks), by crafting the Brew of Sane Thoughts using an Incense Stick instead, and then burning it on an Incense Plate. Just play along like you would normally, and you will be fine.
So, if I had 100 permanent, would it eventually decrease? Or would it immediately spike back to 100 if I did anything forbidden, no matter how minor?
Permanent warp will never disappear, but as Matryoshika said, the cool down between warp effects will get longer, so it wont become an issue, unless you gain warp somehow
Mmmmh, as hayden mentioned. If you have 100 warp, you will see a significant difference in the actual effects OF that 100, if you had just gotten more warp, compared to haven't gotten warp for a few hours, even if you still have that 100 warp.
As @Matryoshika said, warp effects used to crash you and were extremely annoying, this issue for the most part has been fixed, which means that this is now not a problem in any sort of way, but warp effects do go away due to massive complaints to azanor, in thaumcraft, the longer you wait between getting more warp, the more spread out the # of effects are, this scales, similarly how if you gain a lot of warp at once you will get a lot of warp effects one after another in extremely quick succession, it takes longer if you gain more warp at once than if you gain small amounts of warp
