    A very hypothetical thread;
    I've recently been looking around for new ways to get renewable energy. I was thinking about how I would like to know how people think that renewable energy could be harnessed. Any kind of method is acceptable. First some ground rules:
    • You can't just create or destroy energy, as energy can only be transferred.
    • It wouldn't be fun just to have the methods we have today, try to think of something original.
    • There are no resource limits, think far into the future, we have extended our knowledge of space travel and the universe.
    • There is no such thing as a wrong answer or wrong idea.
    I'd just like to see what you come up with, as an added bonus:
    • You can post what you think about the previous person's idea. As poetically or as scientifically as you wish it to be.
    Have fun c;

    Main thing I can think of for futuristic energy is a Dyson sphere. But I could imagine some sort of gravity turbine generating power from a black hole or the particals jets from one.
    (We are discussing IRL not minecraft correct? ;))
    Bonus points for building a black hole Dyson sphere that can collect Hawking radiation as well as harness energy from the particle jets and reuse the particles as gravity turbine fuel :p

    Yeah, I forgot to mention that :p

    There probably could be an area for realistic ideas and non resource constrained.
    The problem with the Dyson sphere is that it would take quite a large workforce to construct.

    I was thinking about using the retrograde or prograde gravity of black holes to spin a huge ring with some sort of super strong reactive alloy to resist the pull of gravity which can monitor the black hole until hawking radiation is emitted. Allowing the ring to harness the energy of the hawking radiation somehow.

    This in real life would be near impossible, nothing can completely resist the pull of a black hole and to be able to design something like that would have to take into account the changes of the event horizon, and since if it gets swallowed by the event horizon all of that work is gone because nothing can escape the event horizon except hawking radiation

    We'll if you build a swarm of self replicating robots that harvest uninhabited planets for recourses, then you could have enough materials and tiny robots for a Dyson sphere in maybe even a few decades depending on how efficient the robots are.
    And yeah of course you would build far enough outside of the even Harrison that it could withstand the gravity. (It would be a VERY big sphere ;))

    I did say that extreme space travel was possible so in that case, there most likely is that kind of material as there are billions of stars in a galaxy, millions of galaxies, every star has around 3 to 10 bodies orbiting. Theres a high chance to find that required material.
