I wouldnt mind the new system so much if it so far worked and if they had gone about installing it differently. Every other server I have EVER been on, even other games like lol and such. When they update anything they restart and push new files as needed. They don't tell the people "hey it will work but you have to wait until the normal reset for it to work again." Even some people who I go to college with were perplexed about why this wasn't done. It is a quick thing to do that would allow instant testing of the new plugin. The staff also should not have installed this during the servers busiest time. Over 20 people were online. The plugin should have been installed when there was maybe 1-5 players online so that the staff could make sure nothing crashed and that it actually did what it should. Another thing, why are we pestered on the mym launcher show thing that are random and don't pertain the the minecraft servers show up yet no warning of this entirely new plugin. Heck...it wasn't even warned on the forums that I saw. I was also told that the plugin was currently being worked on which means it's not finished so who thought it was a good idea to install an unfinished untested plugin on a server without any warning to an unsuspecting player base. Overall this entire issue could have been avoided by warning about the new plugin over a day ahead and then installing it when the least amount of players are online. This is MY opinion. You do not have to agree with it but I think it should be posted so that it may be thought of or even prevent future plugin installation issues like the ones you had here.
A thought: Riot (league of legends) +1000 full time employees revenue US $1.3 billion (2015 estimate) monthly players 67 million type of servers 1 (maybe more for those special events and the other game modes) devOps Team enterprise orchestration software MyM 0 full time employees revenue +/- 0 monthly players ~3 thousand type of servers 1 for every modpack (25) -> they need individual treatment due to different setups not even one devOp no access to enterprise software While I agree that everything can be dealt with in a better manner, but please don't forget to think about the environment, the resources available and the share of resources. When league of legends is down for a day, there go millions of $ revenue. When mym is down for a day, nothing is really lost, nothing that could pay an employee.. We do all this stuff in our free time, while I give up a lot for MyM, I (and probably everyone else) do not reschedule a client meeting for it or stay up for 24 hours to make it in the morning. Could I have announced about this yesterday: yes. Could I have given a precise time: no, it could have also been tomorrow or the day after Did we test things before we went live: yes, the chunk manager system was live on 3 servers for multiple weeks, the shop implementation was highly tested on crundeecraft. You can test stuff for a longer time but that does not increase the amount of bugs you find in a productive manner. (On top please don't forget that the amount of users testing is a major factor, too. So sum those two together.) Spoiler: graphs Please don't loose sight of resources available be it time, money, motivation... resource kinda means everything in those cases. My suggestion about giving suggestions is to think of small changes (in terms of resources) that can have a major impact.
