The thread on your lost items policy reminded me of a buggy Power Armor overheat death I experienced a few weeks ago. I was working under lava for a long while, a few hours, but when I came out and was flying over the only above surface part of the structure my Power Armor overheated and I died. I was lucky enough that I didn't lose anything, I shouldn't have died in the first place. The two main buffers being my swim in lava gene which lowers the damage by a lot, and this time it didn't. I also had a full water tank in my armor that should have stopped the damage flat out. While I was lucky enough to not lose anything I still think it's something that could be looked into.
It's a lag based bug from what I can tell... think of it this way, every tick your armor is supposed to calculate how much heat is being generated both from itself when energy is generated by solar/kinetic upgrades as well as external sources like fire/lava.. The problem is that sometimes the heat generated calculation can lag out which causes that heat to not be applied to your heat bar as it happens but instead build up in the calculation itself, and the cooling systems only work on heat that is already built up so they spend the entire time thinking they have nothing to do... so what happens is when the heat process finally catches up and all that lagged heat is applied at once, you suddenly get a heat spike that far exceeds what your cooling systems can manage, which often times can prove fatal! I've had it before with my power armor on monster too, where I've been stood in monster lobby dealing with modreq tickets while my armor charged off solar power, then out of nowhere my heat bar went from 0% to off the top of the screen which was enough to completely empty my water reserve with plenty of heat left to spare... fortunately I was in creative mode at the time so the damage couldn't actually kill me xD but you get the picture.
Yes, I have seen things like that, but I had been swimming in lava for around 3-4 hours before it, with a paranoid eye on my heat bar and it acted normal. And when I put the suit back on to cool it down, the tanks were still full. The other times I've overheated I was damaged a lot less than normal, something I attributed to my swim in lava gene but this time it was just "Haha, LOL you're dead!" without any sort of nerf at all.
The same thing commonly happens to my base-mate Prometheus7504. He'll be standing around crafting or messing with bees when the same thing happens. When he picks it back up it ends up in his hand and the heat kills him again. Luckily I'm around most of the time to act as a heat sink, but the question i have is why and how that could happen when he had his heat sinks at maximum and all heat producing modules toned down to the max or disabled.
While this has only happened to me once, I do live in an alps biome, which force-cools my armor no matter what. Once while looking up PA, I found a forums that had others wondering this same thing, and had attributed it to the heat the Adv. Solar creates, but I don't know.[DOUBLEPOST=1406240640,1406224110][/DOUBLEPOST]It happened again when I was near the same place, which makes sense since it's a volcano biome, but it confuses me as to why it didn't happen when I was in lava, and this time my defense mechanisms kicked in.
As long as we don't know how to reproduce it, it is unlikely that the mod dev even thinks about looking into it. If you find a way to reproduce I would recommend to directly report it to the mod dev: Issues · MachineMuse/MachineMusePowersuits · GitHub
