I spawned in without a book, may be due to the fact the upon my first attempt to join the server, I crashed, presumably because I forgot to uninstall some mods I had installed for singleplayer. Reinstalled the modpack and joined perfectly. Just wanted to post this here in case there is a real bug. Thanks
