I am a curious person so I often find myself asking random technical questions about the game (perfect example here), but I usually don't want to clutter up the forums with a new thread every time I wonder about the specifics of the growth ticks of crops, so I am making this thread so that I and others like me can have a central place to ask random questions. That example I gave may seem useless at first but it has helped me decide when and how to use /absence many times! So what's on my mind today, this is an easy one; I know that enderstorage chests store their inventory server side, outside of playerdata, but what about the ones with diamond latches to link them to a player, are the inventories of those saved in playerdata or in the same place as the normal enderstorage enderchests?
But then does it store the data in a separate area under the player name linked to it? And then if that player changed their name would it become inaccessible until someone else takes that name, or would it simply update the name of the link to the data?
It's always accessible by everyone, but only the player that created the diamond lock can create another diamond lock with that name. Ender Chest (EnderStorage) - Feed The Beast Wiki
That's what it does, which I know. I am asking for specifics on how it does it, which I'm assuming neither of us know.
Separate threads with a good title will help others to find the answer easier if they have the same question.
I can do that but If i were to, then some days I may end up making multiple threads a day, I feel like there's not a very good section to put them in other then community talk or other in the support forums. Community talk and offtopic would get cluttered very fast which for some reason I see as a bad thing, and the other section in support forums just doesn't feel like the right place to me...
Reading the information, it looks as if the diamond acts as a 4th color option. So you have the red/red/red, and anyone can access that with their own red/red/red chest. But the diamond changes it to red/red/red/coolgi3000. Some one else would have to have a red/red/red/coolgi3000 chest to open it. Like adding an expansion slot with the diamond to add that 4th color. I am now picturing the color "coolgi3000" as this odd, slightly greenish orange. Do not ask how this works.
Hmm I usually picture it as a sort of cyan turquoise color, but that's just cus my skin is mostely that color
That's called synesthesia, around four percent of the population experience this phenomenon where the senses intermix. In this case a word has a certain color to it.
Omg you just touched my fave subject @wyndman , Synesthesia is a confusion of the senses, it comes in many varieties, some commoner than others. For example, some see words as colors, colors as smells, smells as words, pictures as sounds, and sounds as flavours. Total synesthesia means total confusion of the senses, meaning you see all the senses mitch and matched. many of the worlds greatest artists have synesthesia, and the musicians have written their tunes by simply recreating what they hear when they see, smell, touch or taste something ( example: tasting mint chip icecream with the result sounding like a tuba ) Some artists draw what they see when they smell, touch, taste or hear something. It is said that almost everyone is born with synesthesia when they´re born but then the brain develops it buts the senses in order, Synesthesia comes when the brain doesn´t fix the jumble of senses and leaves it as is, or only fixes some.
To elaborate, the data tag stores content data with left, middle and right colours, as well as a type, currently either item or fluid. The addition of a diamond adds an owner tag to the tag title. These tags are created when an item is first added to the chest storage, and mimic the data type used by vanilla chests.
