Currently quarrying is disallowed in the End, and this is a big problem for a GT-based Server pack. Due to the way COG is set up, we only get Small Iridium Ores generating, and ONLY in the End. Small Iridium Ore, when mined has a random chance of dropping 1 of 3 items (plus endstone dust) : Iridium Ore (IC2 ore-ball), Impure Iridium Dust, and Crushed Iridium Ore. Only the Crushed Iridium ore can be processed for Osmium dust, (you get 1 tiny pile, 9 of which make a full Osmium Dust). I've tried pretty much every tool for mining, but the outcome is always a 1/3 chance of crushed. This is a PERFECT solution to quarrying in the End. I congratulate the pack dev for coming up with this elegant solution .... Unfortunately, if you can't quarry, you essentially have to spend HOURS of RL, in-game time, in the end strip mining just for a *chance* to get a full osmium ingot at the end of the day. I have an advanced diamond drill set to 3x3 mode, and doing a 100% strip mining pattern in Iridium Ore's preferred spawn elevation still yields almost NO crushed ore. Given the relative rarity of Small Iridium Ore deposits, this is a nearly impenetrable barrier to progress in GT. You need more than half a dozen Osmium ingots to even get started with Replication. Once you HAVE started, you never go back to the End for iridium, because that would be a waste of time, even with LV replicator and mass fabricator. The HOURS that the LV stuff takes to make one Osmium Dust is -STILL- far faster than trying to mine the stuff by hand. There are, however, a few solutions to this. Here are few! Open the End to quarries. This is how the modpack developers intended, so it jives with the entire post-HV progression they had in mind for the pack. This will require more frequent resets of the dimension, however, but wouldn't require any IMMEDIATE resets to show an effect. Alter COG to generate full size Iridium instead of tiny piles. This will give us a 100% chance at a tiny pile of Osmium dust, and a 10% chance (or 14.5% with TE Pulverizer fully augmented for secondary output chance) at a full size pile. Since the end has been heavily explored, this would require a reset of the End. Alter COG to generate Small Osmium Ore blocks in the End. This will give us ... a Lot more osmium, i think, than the pack devs intended. Basically at least a full ingot for each ore, plus chances at tiny piles. Like #2, this would require a reset of the End. Alter COG to allow Iridium/Osmium in the Overworld. This would allow iridium/osmium to spawn in the Farm world, where quarrying is allowed. Would require a farm world reset, but wouldn't be likely to affect the main world (since i'm sure the main overworld is probably approaching 100% generated, if its not already). Would require a farm world reset. I know the Administration Staff is probably overloaded with work at this point, considering the whole name-change stuff. But I play 17 hours a day - Even WITH the nearly impossible odds at getting Osmium from the End, I personally will spend the time to do it. However --People who have real lives, or jobs, or don't spend all their free time on MyM, however, are basically completely locked out of GT progression beyond High Voltage right now! Just something to consider. I'm personally hoping for the quarrying solution Thanks for climbing this wall of text!
Quarrying in the end is the way the modpack devs intended (or planned for). My vote is solidly for that, #1. Everything else would end up violating their vision for the pack.
I like option number 4 best. make it a rare ore in the farm world so that the end doesn't have to be reset so often and the farm world will do what it was designed to do which is to be used to gather resources without leaving huge holes in the overworld. just my two cents. sincerely, metalobism (owner of metalocorp)
Well, here on res, the quarry recipe requires Stainless Steel plates, and other mid-game tech. much diamonds, much electric blast furnace work. I think only a select few on the server actually have the tech for it lol.
the thing with quarries is - I don't know if it would be a mind changer in terms of the favorite solution - big quarries tend to crash the server at the time when the frames get destroyed, either by hand or automatically. This is the main the reason why landmarks are disabled for quarries.
Ender-quarries are the future! And also what I mean when I say quarry - I don't think i've even seen a reg BC quarry in use for....quite some time lol. If, however, Quarrying the End isn't an option, #2 would probably least impact the intended progression (read, least OP). I was slightly wrong in my numbers tho - you'd get 2 crushed ores for each (regular) Iridium Ore, which would basically double the amount of osmium one could get by hand in this modpack. It would also make iridium MUCH easier to get, though I don't think that's an issue - since i've found tons in dungeon chests before. But I'm not the one who has to implement AND support this, and soothe the tears of players if there are issues, so the decision on which path is taken is, as always, entirely up to you Though I do hope SOMETHING is done. I really do feel like, 2 hours of solid gameplay for 4 tiny piles of osmium dust is....extreme, and extremely brutal. I've got friends on the server, and i'd hate to see them move to another pack because of this issue :<
You're not on Resurrection yet chugga, and afaik you're the only person who would think of trying that Enderquarries in the farm world haven't turned it into a worthless World of Dirt. I do not anticipate such a thing happening in the future. *mumbles a Chant of Protection From Chugga*
