I am a modded minecraft player (multiplayer, singleplayer). I have put together a few unofficial modpacks, authored some resource addon packs for modded for use with other vanilla RPs. I also author computercraft applications. I've written a few private mods but nothing that I have published thus far has been released. I prefer technical mods over magic mods, and kitchen-sink modpacks over gated/expert packs. My preferred version of mc+forge is 1.12, though I am a sucker for 1.7.10 still.
I have been playing modpacks since 2009, minecraft since it came out, and helped with the beta testing of MC prior to its official first release. My favorite pack of all-time is TechWorld 2. I am able to play all the modpacks on MYM, but usually do only one at a time. My least favorite modpack of all time is Divine Journey 2 (sorry, it wasn't too bad except some things *cough*totemicroots*cough*).
As for the going decent system for a all-around modpack player? I can play any with real good performance:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
NVidia GeForce GT 610 with Dual Large-Screen Flat Panel QLED-backed screens
Sound Blaster Audigy ZX2-Platinum+LiveDrive Firewire/Remove
Memory 16GB DDR3 Dual Channel 666Mhz 9-9-9-24
Level 1,2,3 caches 32/32,256,8048kb (8/8/8/16way)
Seagate 250GB SSD (for OS), Western Digital 2TB HDD (for pfiles)
^Altogether I paid about 216$ for this setup, everything was refurbished and works perfectly
Java Setup: Using Oracle JRE (latest possible), allocating 8GB to minecraft
seems that 6GB is the threshold that needs to be passed before you have enough to play modpacks modern. Also seems that Intel i5 is needed at least i3, or you will get a CPU bottleneck. Graphics card (NVIDIA, ATI) needed or you will get the nasty GC bottleneck, even with APUs I get that.
OS: Windows 10 (main) Kubuntu 21.04 (dual boot, HDD)Interact
