Meowdy! I am trying to get my roommate's kid into modded Minecraft but they've only played Vanilla Minecraft. (up to 1.16) What would ya'll suggest is the best MyM hosted modpack to get them started but not too overwhelming or challenging?

Most of us probably started on the classic 1.7.10 kitchen sink pack - Infinity Evolved (Normal Mode) then tried Expert. If you want newer, then Revelations is a smaller 1.12 kitchen sink pack that's fairly easy to work through. Neither of those modify Mod recipes, etc so they can get a feel for the different mods before they venture into Expert mode packs with modded recipes and quest books.

I'd say sum quest modpack is a way to learn the mods, for example Agrarian Skies 2 - if you go throught the early stages of grind(getting cobble gen, lava sum resources to make 1st machines) its really good pack

Every quest have description what to do and usually explain how things works or what they do.

Con is, if kid played vanilla it would be hard to switch to skyblock tho.

I'd go with some kitchen sink packs. As Hanover said Infinity is a good bet. I wouldn't recommend Revelations though if you care about having other players online to help you, as that server seems to be basically dead here.

Eternal could be another good one, seems rather easy, and has a ton of quests to give a new player different goals to work towards.

Go with infinity. Eternal is the newest iteration of that, but the pack is ginourmous. May be overwhelming.

Infinity all the way. Its fun. Its easy enough and theres plenty of mods, but not many annoying ones.

However if you want easy and slightly hard, come on Po3K. I have creative items, and im willing to share. You can cheese the pack and still have a little challenge :)

I might log in to PO3K just to see the cheese, those degree ingots completely killed the pack for me.

@PhishTahkoh Ill setup a group of ender-chest with those neutral steel ingots, all on public colors for all to use. Might make things easier. Just make one, apply the right color code and grab which ever neutral steel ingots you need. Click HERE to go there.

That might make the pack a little less grindy for those in need.

I'm surprised no one asked.. What kind of Minecraft player your roommate is? A builder and decorator? Likes redstone contraptions? Wants a bit of adrenaline or challenge of (hardcore) survival? Likes freedom of sandbox or prefers guidance from quest book?

I started with AS2 pre-update because I like a little punishment while being guided. Before that I only used a mod here or there to change my vanilla experience.

It's not exactly a pack we host but a good starter pack is FTB Academy
