KCauldron is almost certainly causing your issues with loss of the buffs on dimension change, as I would assume infusions work similarly to AM2...
Should work fine, but ghasts need a minimum of 5x5 empty space to spawn, so it will need to be cleared very quickly for a chance at spawning one.
