Well that's intended else you could grief with it.
That did work before too with hardcore mode.
What is happening to you too? That it compltelty dissappears or just get moved? Carpenter's door is protected and the hatches after the next...

With the next restart it is. I haven't seen it before
Then I have no idea how this happens. We got never a report about it in 1.6.4
Are you sure that it dissappears? If your inventory is full it will drop your wand so it could happen that the wand is somewhere on the ground....

I think you mean server crash not client crash or?
