I've been using an I5 and have yet to find a game (except watch dogs ofc >.>) that I'm not able to play in the +- highest settings. I even record sometimes and don't notice any fps lag in any way. So an I7 really isn't needed. ;)
The money you spare on the processor can better be used in perpiherals or the graphics card or something. I certainly advice to choose a good mouse, keyboard, ... (good, I did not say expensive) since playing a game at a billion FPS with the worst mouse ever isn't fun either.

Yeah if you are just playing games the i5-4690k, like you had originally will be fine.

amazing for its price and pretty good overall here is one review of it:

Pros: Low profile, easy install, powerful gaming graphics, excellent price, runs most games of highest settings.

Cons: None, this is THE card for the price.

Other Thoughts: If you have $100 to spend, this is the best card you will find with 4gb ram. Truly awesome!

    Manufacturer Response:
Thank you for the great review. we appreciate the positive feedback.

Okay, if you have any more questions or concerns, please let us know.

R9 380, is better. And chugga i7 are really only needed for editing or high end gaming builds

I am not a magician at pc hardware but I am currently running a amd fx 8150, nvidia 670. And an 6 year old hard drive or something. I have tossed bascally every game i like on it, ranging from minecraft to battlefield and i rarely get lag, maybe a bit lag and a bit longer loading time because of the old components and harddrive. So i would go for intel i5 as it is good for gaming. The i7 is more for multitasking and video editing etc.

1 r9 is NOT better, the 2 way crossfire will be about 1.75x as good a a lone r9[DOUBLEPOST=1437099699][/DOUBLEPOST]that said a crossfire between 2 r9's is superior

The only problem with asking people advice, is they like their games differently to everyone else, me personally I'm not too fussed with running games at ultra with 4xMSAA, I can play a game at really low and still enjoy it.

What you need to do is build around the pc you have now, then upgrade as you see fit but I will suggest a gtx960 just because I've seen one in action and for the money it's pretty bang on
