I agree with Cynn, I loved that it was exclusive at first, but now there's barely anyone ever on. I think the idea of Patron only servers is an amazing idea. A good revenue generator for the MYM network and it's nice for the initial players when the server is alive. As others have stated, a completely open server may not be the best idea. I really like the idea of it being Player Title restricted, as I suspect MYM dedicated players are less likely to participate in griefing. I would hope the griefing wouldn't be much of an issue because of all the work it takes to get anywhere. As far as people lagging the server down, I'm not too worried about that, every server has some lag and I've seen this server with 20+ppl all the time when it first opened. I know you all have thought this through thoroughly and don't need business advice from me, but I like the idea of every new server being patron only for the first month then it opens to the public. Huge incentive for individuals to stay subscribed, but not so long that other's will get tired of waiting and go somewhere else.

While I understand everyone wants more warm bodies on the server, from where I'm sitting it doesn't seem feasible. If it had been we would have made it public from the start. DJ has had it's bumps in the road under a gated entry, I shudder to imagine the issues should a pack that was never designed for large numbers of players to assault it at once happens. Patron retention is always important, as our patrons are currently ensuring that we have a network to play on in the first place. We're working on some more unique patron opportunities at the moment, and perhaps the next patron only server will provide us more opportunities to lift the velvet rope in time for players to join.

My only qualm was that despite being a max tier donator, I'm blocked from entering, i feel blocking us from a simple thing like a patron wall is ridiculous, since donators supported MyM before patreon was a thing, and especially since we've been relatively cast aside because of the new donation tier rules

I can understand where you are coming from on that, but have to disagree.

I am also a tier 5 donater, and I did it to support the network. I feel that I've gotten way more then my monies worth.

MyM has to be able to support itself. And sadly that is now only possible by patrons and server upgrades. So it makes sense that patrons get there own pack, and I fully expect more packs to come out that are patron only based on simple business. Does that make me sad? Yes, but only because I hate spending money. But to have a great network like we have now, it costs money. Money for servers, money for the forums.

So we all need to take a minute and realize that good things cost and that the pittance paid for a game does not mean we get free servers forever. And I will be a patron again as soon as my PayPal is fixed, lol.

I agree with this, and I feel that this is where the divide is in some players.

People's intentions for donating as a player, and the Networks intentions for having donations are different.

You donate to a server to support it. To give it money to help it keep going and support the people that run it. We got perks for donating as a "Thank you."

If you donated just to get the perks, then you're missing the point of a "donation".

Rules change, and that sucks. MyM has to roll with the punches and do what they can to stay afloat. Sadly, a toned-town subscription based system is the only way to do that for now.

And if you do want to look at it as the whole "I bought this and I deserve the same perks as everyone else!" type of way, it isn't fair to the people that have to pay $5-20 monthly to access new servers, if people that donated $10-50 once in the past get it forever at no extra cost.

There is no correlation between patron and donor tiers. Donor tier rewards were a one time donation to the network, and you are rewarded as a thanks by being handed shiny perks to enhance or simplify your play experience. These were great they showed some love to the network and provided you with a nod of thanks from us. Unfortunately Mojang doesn't see it this way, the EULA which we all agreed to prevents this sort of transaction from happening, but since a deal is a deal you can keep your tier rewards from now until the end of time without fear of Mojang swooping in and taking them away, unless of course Mojang reneges on another deal since their overlords at Microsoft aren't making enough money of realms subscriptions.

Patron on the other hand is a subscription style service to have access to whatever it is we happen to be showcasing at the time. It also makes Mojang happy because it is a direct competitor to their paid monthly service.

When you purchased World of Warcraft fourteen years ago, you paid your $49.99 or $79.99 for the collectors edition like I did. This bought you the rights to use that game, but if you wanted to actually then join a Blizzard server you would then be forced to shell out anywhere between $12.99 and $14.99 a month. Sure you could connect to some shady "private" server and forgo that price tag, but you'd be missing things like content and support. Think of MyM as the same creature. We have free servers, anyone who hasn't been banished for their conduct is welcome to play, enjoy the perks they may have, enjoy the perks other players have shared and our support. If you want to enjoy something a little more intimate you have the option of a patron only server, this could mean a pack that would struggle under public pressure, or maybe just a more traditional pack with a much tighter knit community.

The patron wall doesn't stop you from playing, it just stands along side the traditional offerings of the network for those players who wish to take on an active role in supporting the network and potentially having access to something else.

Just to make things clear. A donation in legal terms does not have any service/product in return. Everything you can buy on the shop which grants anything no matter if for the entire server or just you is a normal purchase and not a donation.

Fixed my PayPal, Got Donator, but will still most likely no play on D.J. as I am a patron to support the server.
