Simple put an ingot from world gen is one step.

Alloys would be considered two. I.e. bronze, alumite, manylium

i just realized under this definition invar shears would then be counted as endgame, as smelting the ingots, getting the ingots, induction the ingots, then craft it, bam 4 steps

I don't get what you mean by "smelting the ingots, getting the ingots"..
Alloys like invar and electrum count as 2 steps, step 1 is smelting the 2 base ores into ingots and step 2 is combining them in the induction furnace.

Another slightly messy addendum that I think should be added is what I will call the "Bucket Rule":
If a recipe requires any bucket of liquid, the action of filling the bucket either by fluid transposer or by hand counts as 1 step, however if the crafting recipe gives back an empty bucket as a by-product then you do NOT need to consider the smelting of 3 iron ingots and the crafting of a bucket as previous steps, so if a recipe needs 1 bucket of water then that bucket of water is considered a 1 step item not a 3 step item.

For enderium: melting enderpearls in a magma crucible counts as step 1, filling a bucket of ender counts as step 2, crafting enderium blend counts as step 3 and smelting enderium ingots in induction furnace counts as step 4, thus under these proposed rules you can sell enderium ingots but nothing they are made from ;)

the way he just said it, it would be counted that way, as the process of mining is one, the smelting into ingots is two, the induction 3, the crafting 4, and thats why invar sheers would be endgame, no machine would be allowed to be sold either, as they would all be t5+ crafting steps, even if it's something REALLY easy to make, say, a harvester

No, mining the ore without an auto-smelting tool does not count as a step.

Also even if invar shears were a 4 step item that would make them not end-game as 4 step items CAN be sold, it's 5 step items than can't be.

    So the bucket rule....

Yeah, no idea on how to word that into a simple easy to understand blurb. @chaosblad3 care to take a stab at not making it so messy?

Open to others to make it less messy.

I'll figure it out from submissions or myself soon.

So this seems to be going well. I feel that with few modpack specific exceptions this will end up being able to cover everthing.

@everone, please try to find items that break these guidelines so we can either modify the guidelines or add an item exception either to be allowed or not allowed.

@Moderator I am hoping many of you will chime in with your thoughts either for or against, and what you see as issues as you are the ones mostly responsible for enforcing these rules across the network.

Maybe somebody will give them a slight push in staff chat?

An easy thing to do, which I will before the next thread is have a dump from each mod of world gen items, and a list of each mods loot they add to dungeons.

This will make it easier for people to not have to wonder if a specific item can be considered as such or not.

I would disagree with the thaumcraft rule. If i am a lazy sod, and want to build with a stack or so of nitor, that should be an option open to me.
For thaumcraft you need the research, the crafting items, and the infrastructure (infusion altar ect). If you limit the market to crafting items, and early game functional items players would still need to advance in thaumcraft to actually craft and use them.

I would define anything early game that you can get from scratch without an infusion altar.
So you could sell a greatwood wand with gold caps, or a distillery setup, which would speed things up, but not break progression
And you could sell a mining focus, But not a upgraded mining focus. (to make the machine to upgrade to focus, it requires the infusion altar.)

As for the non-functional/crafting items, selling void ingots would provide someone with the research and infrastructure to use them in crafting, but those without still cannot.

this breaks progression get the greatwood, get everything you need, the items are useless without the research, so why do you want ot buy them?

thats the point. with the research i could just by them without crafting them, use money to save time. only have to do the last stage of the crafting. why do you buy anything on the market? you either dont have it, or you dont want to spend the time to get it.

great wood wands are very early game, if you are smart, 5-10 minutes of starting thaumcraft, you can get the wand, easy. none of what i have listed above breaks progression.

there's an exception, that i need to remind people about, where if you've made it before, you can buy it again

I believe that the standard rule regarding thaumcraft has always been if it requires research that it can not be sold on the market. I will rephrase the post tonight.

And I'll let @Administrator or above decide if that rule is still to stand or not.
